Why it is Time to Man (and Woman) Up!
The world will push you down and mow you over if you allow it to. You can succumb to the pressure or you can rise up and man (or woman) up!
by Pete Ferguson
I laughed out loud when I read this quote on the "bettermanprojects" blog I follow, "A…

I am a carpenters son. Well more than that Grandpa was a carpenter Dad carpenter and so was my Brother. i did have dreams when in jr hogh and high school. as graduation drew near I gave into my Dads desire to have both his boys work with him. This seemed to work as long as we were all together. Things changed in 2002 when Dad passed away. This left my brther and I to carry on the familt tradition.Well that joint dream didn't last all that long. Over a five year period we got thngs rolling…

Calling all men to enjoy “Wild Places”
I want to encourage men to get out into wild places. I see many men and young men these days afraid of, or unfamiliar with, the wilderness. It is important to go there for renewal and focus. I understand how hard it is to carve out time for you. We are so busy with our jobs, families, church work, yard work, and life in general that we don’t, as men, go to the woods alone. We are also insulated from wild places in our suburban and city homes. It takes more time…

The Scary Reality of our Daily Choices
Think your small decisions each day don’t matter? This short story might change your mind!
Picture three friends that grew up together. They live in the same neighborhood and have similar outlooks on life. Each makes $50,000 a year. They are each married and have average health and body weight.
Friend #1 is Jim. He plods along each day, doing what he’s always done. He’s a generally happy guy, but complains on occasion that nothing ever changes.
Friend #2 is Rick. …

What is Success??
The 2 best definitions I've heard come from Earl Nightingale, describing it as, the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal. The other from John Wooden who said, it's not about being better than anyone, but being the best you are capable of becoming.
I was reading a devotion from David Jerimiah and he had a Henry Ward Beecher quote. No man can tell whether he is rich or poor by his ledger. It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich or poor according to what he is, not…

The Frog & the Prince - A Man's Perspective
Often in the fairy tale of the Princess and the Frog the woes of the princess are exploited while the Prince sits around on a lily pad eating flies all day. Are you a Man or a Frog?
by Pete Ferguson
This morning on the drive home from the gym I was thinking about what to write when the words "Frog and the Prince" popped into my head.
I…

Open the ‘Box’ to your Child’s Potential
All parents want the best for their families. However, with the best of intentions, sometimes mothers and fathers accidentally judge the “worthiness” of their children’s gifts based on the rules and beliefs that were instilled in them.
In today’s short clip, I mention a…

Battling Chocolate (Temptation
Halloween candy goes on sale this week. Before you snatch up your favorites, beware of the monster you may unleash. Here’s my recent battle with temptation.
Somebody knew women who like china, love chocolate and placed my favorite treat among housewares. I picked up the 14.1 ounce Swiss chocolate bar and remembered its smooth taste. “I’ll buy it for you?” my friend…

The Value of a Coach
"Backwards, longline," said the four-time barefoot water ski World Champion, David Small. I was on a lake in Winter Haven, Florida, getting back on my feet with barefoot water skiing following a 9-month rehabilitation after ACL replacement surgery.
I shot him an incredulous look.…

Keeping Kids Safe and Healthy This Halloween
I have never considered Halloween a “holiday” and truthfully never made a big deal of it for my children. I chose instead to make some type of pumpkin-based treat for them, which we enjoyed at home, and was not one of those moms who made elaborate costumes and made trick or treating a big deal. (I know they…

Too many Stimuli!
It seems that every few weeks for the past year I have compiled lists of business things to accomplish, food to cook, people to visit, books to read and the list(s) go on. I get to a point where I feel like I need to purge.
Last week I was feeling very tired of being tired so I decided to do something different. I decided that I would write out all my feelings. Dan has said that writing can be very therapeutic and I find that to be true. My goal was to find out what were the internal…

Will the election change your life?
November 6th is approaching quickly and, as the news always says, this is the most critical election in history. I do believe it is critical anytime we elect someone to lead the country. I always wonder who would really want to lead a country where nearly half of the people you are leading are already against you before you even take office. How much will this election change your life? Or I guess the better question would be;…

I know what I want now
I believe the reason it has taken me this long, is that what I want goes against the "norm". Here is the timeline I am working out right now. By the first of the year no more day job and start working from home. The next five years will be spent acquire enough money to by 40 to 80 acres. once the land is bought and paid for I want to farm for my family and to help generate income. This is what I hear in my head when ever I say this to myself or think about it " You can't make a living that…
