I had a friend comment lightheartedly on what a good mom I was because I mentioned missing the kids when they’re gone. (If you only knew, I thought.)
Another mom commented that she must be a “bad” mom because she loved it when the kids were gone. (At least for a while.)
And we had a chuckle over it. But it got me thinking about how often we classify ourselves and those with whom we have relationship. Especially… Continue
Doing purposeful, deliberate stuff does take some discipline! I'm learning that slowly but surely.

Tis the Season to make jolly! And to give. I love Christmas. For this special holiday I shop all year round anticipating the desires and wishes of my family and friends........and there are many. I love to give. It comes very easily and naturally for me. But every year around this time I am made painfully aware of those who simply don't think to give...or have no desire...aren't in the mood.....or can't afford it. All of which I, personally, find pretty… Continue
When looking to take a bike tour, there were a number of factors that came into play in regards to which one to try. Some of the criteria we had when selecting a tour were; length of the tour, size of the group, location of the ride, who we would be riding with and last but not least, what were the conditions of our over night stays going to be like? The last one was not as big of a deal for me when we were selecting our trip, but it was for my wife.
I'm not a big fan of certifications and degrees. Statistics tell us that 10 years after college graduation, 80% of graduates are doing something completely unrelated to their degree.
I am a big fan of learning however. Books, college and community college classes, seminars, workshops, teleseminars, webinars, ecoaching, hiring a coach, mastermind groups; they all help you increase your knowledge.
And since we live in a knowledge-based economy, now is the time to learn.… Continue
I'm a Foreign Service Officer (U.S. diplomat) with the U.S. Department of State, and have been for the past 10 years. I've worked in Central Africa, Morocco, Yemen, Washington, DC and am now in the second year of a two-year tour in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (West Africa). Next summer, I'll be returning to the U.S. and officially resign from the Federal government.
Why am I leaving the Federal government? Because, quite frankly, I'm not happy working for the Feds anymore and I'm tired of… Continue

On holiday weeks like this one I find it interesting that most of us get the same, if not more, work done as we do during normal weeks. But we do it in half the time.
What if every week were a holiday week? That's what happens in a Results Oriented Workplace (ROW). Do the work and leave. Who came up with 9 to 5 anyway?
As you consider where you are at in life right now, are you done? Are you hanging on by a thread? Are you frustrated and tired with the setbacks of life? Have you been so busy fixing the flat tires of your career, you have no desire to try and fix them any more?
I just turned 40 this past weekend and for some, the thought of turning 40 can be a paralyzing thought. I have had time over the past few months leading up to this birthday to prepare myself and to do a self evaluation to see… Continue
I have so much to be thankful for today. I would miss Thanksgiving dinner if I tried to enumerate them all in this post. As you can read in my previous post I started a nutrition and exercise program November 1st. As of this morning I am down 14.5 lbs. which I am thankful for. I have already made a plan of attack for today's feast so I can enjoy the meal and the people I am with without blowing my nutrition program. I was very inspired by the "Where Are They Now" Biggest Loser Special that… Continue

I hope some of you have heard of Rob Bell from Mars Hill Church in Grand Rapids Michigan. If you havent you should!! Look him up and add him to your podcasts!! Some really amazing stuff.
I am listening to one of his messages right now and his premise was around "the beginning and ending of the story provides the real context and meaning of the story in between."
In short the story begins with Genesis 1 and 2. There was a Garden, and creation and peace. One of the key… Continue

So I had my latest session today and it went well as always.
My counselor Joel and I both agree that my driving passion and calling is efficiency. I have this knack and driving passion to make things more efficient whether it be to save money, time, or effort (in my own home I put timers on lights, unplug energy vampires, added a programmable thermostat, etc). I get upset if I run errands and forget to put laundry in to run while I'm gone. You get the idea.
Okay, that may be a corny title, but let me take a moment to dive a little deeper into the idea of what it means to go beyond self through attending and doing ‘anything’ self-help related. It’s one the most important pieces in our personal and professional growth process. We can say we want to be better at something, but we need to define what being better at something means. Where do we focus our energy and priorities?
We have major balancing points in our life, and one of them is… Continue

Dad…….If there is anyone in this world to whom I admire so much it would my dad. Between me and all my siblings he was it. The goal…The one we aspired to be like. If I could have been even a 10th of the man he was, I would say that I lived a great life. His character was sound, his integrity was beyond measurable, and to me he was never wrong about anything. He always seemed to have the answers that I needed to hear. I never quite understood how does someone get to be that smart, but… Continue

I have to share another story about my 20 month old daughter Alena (just in case, pronounced Uh-Lee-nuh).
We may have to start resorting to needle injections when she gets antibiotics. If she gets an ear infection or whatever and has to take antibiotics, we have to be very careful due to her being allergic to certain medicines. Well, we finally got down to a specific medicine that she’s okay taking and won’t break out from it. Okay….
