"No, Thank you" bites--4 Tips to Career Exploration
As a kid, I was blessed to have a mother who cooked and prepared a variety of dinner meals. Inevitably, there would be main dishes or sides that did NOT look or smell very appealing and she would insist that me and my brothers take at least one bite to try it. Most of the time, it tasted better than it looked, and as a result, I am now a “foodie” who loves to try new foods. (Thanks, Mom!)
As my kids were growing up, my wife and I implemented the same rule, calling it a “No, Thank You”…

February 29th - A "Bonus" Day - or not ...
Today is Leap Day! - February 29th - the day that is added to our calendar in years that are divisible by 4 - unless that year is divisible by 100 in which it is not added - unless the year is divisible by 400 in which case it is ...
The reason we add the day is because the time it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun is slightly longer than 365 days (actually 365.256 days). So, if this day were not added, eventually we would have a blizzard…

Healthy Living: Fiber for Healthier Lungs
It’s no secret fiber keeps your digestive system working well. Most people also know that it helps slow digestion of meals so it’s great for weight loss, reduces cancer risk and also sweeps toxins out of your body, all of which add up to reducing the risk of disease overall. I talked…

Most potential clients call upon me for help answering the question: Is counseling really right for me?
The difference between counseling and coaching can be murky at times, and I hope to add some clarity here. To draw this distinction, I use the analogy of swimming versus rowing a boat.
When a person is suffering from deep emotional wounds, her daily life can feel like a struggle to keep her head above water. She's paddling hard in deep water, barely able to swim. She is…

Blowing your own horn
When we grow up as kids we remember the kid that always told everyone how great they were. This was usually the kid who was terrible at something. So as we become adults many of us don't like to talk about our accomplishments. As I write articles and books I can become uncomfortable too when I share some of my work. It reminds me of a line I have heard…

The Danger (or Power?) of Comparison
C.S. Lewis said “Comparison is the root of discontent”. With more and more access to media and things like Facebook and other social platforms, it is so tempting (and easy) to compare ourselves and our circumstances to others. Maybe it’s the neighbor’s nice, new car; or their big, new house; or their family trip to New Zealand. Or maybe it’s noticing a blog that is flashier than ours, or a tribe that is bigger. It’s ok to notice those things. The danger is in letting those…

Healthy Weight Loss: Are Low Carb, High Fat Diets Healthiest?
Most of us are conditioned by our diets to primarily burn glucose as our primary fuel, which actually inhibits our body's ability to access and burn body fat. So that makes it almost impossible to lose weight. Add to that we’ve been brainwashed for years to believe fat is bad and makes us fat when that couldn’t be…

A key lesson I remember from reading Michael Masterson's "7 years to 7 figures", is that if you want to be a better person, you must replace bad habits with good habits.

Keeping Your Resolutions
I’m sure that many of you reading this made a resolution earlier this month to get organized, declutter your home, finally get your finances in order, stop wasting time, or perhaps all of the above! Right about now (one month into your resolution) is when most people start to fade on achieving their goal. You might have had great motivation starting out.
