Recently a friend asked for some recommendations on what books, blogs, podcast, newsletters, etc, I would use to mentor a new leader to help facilitate their growth as a leader. Below is a list of books I recommended broken down by levels. I will post some of the other resources at a later date.
Do you use books to coach and develop leaders in your organization?
What are some other methods and resources you use to help build leaders on your team?
What would your book…

I'm a painter/artist/illustrator who wants to make it on his own, but there are hurdles, such as alimony payments, insurance and making sure I can make enough to meet those obligations and responsibilities.
Any advice out there on how to approach taking the leap????
I realize it will be very difficult at first, but the satisfaction of doing what I love and the financial gain down the road will hopefully seem worth it! I am a package designer in a…

The day is yours. Don't just catch it! Capture it! Wrap your arms around it. Take the day and live your life to its fullest.
The air is fresh, filling your lungs and giving life to all the beauty around you. Each breath you take, each beat of your heart, gives way to the birth of new cells, replacing the old. The reproduction can strength or weaken you. If your mind and heart are . . . true, open, full of love and determination, you will become better through an evolution…

One of the best decisions I made early on in my blogging career was to join the forums at 48Days.net. I discovered the forum by purchasing Dan Miller's best-selling book, "48 Days to The Work You Love". The book guided me to visit to Dan's featured site- 48days.com and it was there I learned of the opportunities to connect with other people at 48days.net.…

Whether you’re a beginner or are simply honing your craft, we’re all seeking to get better. What, then, is the best, most efficient, way to improve?
First, here’s some advice that gets tossed around a lot that I find dubious:
- Read – That’s usually the first thing that people tell you to do if you want to become a better writer. I read. I read a lot, 8 books finished this month. I’m not sure, however, how much any of that reading is doing to improve my writing. Maybe…

Like many of you, after struggling and fighting for a year, I am starting to become an overnight success.
The past three months have seen tremendous growth in my business which is very exciting. I have a 300% increase in attendance since last year and my personal training schedule is completely full. I am at the point where I will be turning down clients.
It is a great feeling and I am a bit sad I am going to leave this business behind for another adventure. I am confident the…

It is the week before the Super Bowl, so I am being bombarded with feel good stories of the player and coaches for this weeks game. What is not getting the attention is how these team got to the Super Bowl. Both team’s coaches, at a pivotal point in the season, chose to be great and not settle for just being good. I watched the Baltimore Ravens lose to my beloved Redskins in overtime as a good team but not a great team. San Francisco too was a good team but with a couple losses their coach…

My goal this year is to read two books per month. Preferably non-fiction books but books that are helpful and which fill my mind with good, pleasing, and excellent things.
Here are the books I read for January 2013.
Wisdom Meets Passion by Dan Miller & Jarad Angaza
The Erie Train Boy by Horatio Alger
Early to Rise by Andy Traub
The Joys of Living by Orison Swett Marden
All the above books I would recommend.

It’s a question that gets asked thousands of times a day by job seekers. “How am I supposed to find a job when….”
Of course, the possible endings to that question are too many to count. Here’s a handful of some of the more common ones.
- …there are so many others looking for work?
- …they only accept online resumes and no one…

WordPress is not just a blogging platform. A wordpress website can be set up as a static site or have some static pages and a blog. You can also use it as a membership site, a forum, a shopping catalog, etc… Pretty much anything you can imagine for a website can be created with the wordpress blogging platform.
Why use WordPress instead of just building a site? It’s easier to build. It’s cheaper. It’s easier to update.
WordPress has a plethora of plugins and add ons to…

What Is That Thingy?
Jan 29, 2013
We were having such a wonderful time with our daughter and son-in-law at Christmas. Wrapping paper was strewn throughout their living room, and smiles were on our faces. I was given a relatively small package to open, and out popped this “thingy”. I really had no clue what it was, but I felt it looked like some sort of torture device.…

The series of Arson related fires in Mansfield, Ohio between June of 2012 and January 2013 may have ended. We have had a couple of deliberate fires started involving an open structure being built; but those arsons don't appear to be related to the previous arson series of fires.
You may read the story…

Do you have dreams that have you spent years only talking about, but never really tried to make come true? You may have wasted precious time saying, “Next year I will knuckle down and start working on my own business, or when the economy picks up, that’s when I’ll make my move”. The race has started but your car is still sitting in the garage.
Does this story sound familiar? Are you haunted by the feeling of never achieving…

Cowboy Up - 'kou-boi uhp':
- When faced with a hard chore, it's a shift in attitude from "can't" to a positive "can-do" with confidence and a non-complaining spirit that becomes contageous.
- Essentially another term for self-endowment of strength and moral, or to another. Essentially another term for a similar phrase like, "toughen up", or "stop your belly-aching and…

I found this a few years ago... I pull out the clipping every now and then and read it.
Let me know what you think.
"Love or Infatuation
Infatuation is fleeting desire - one set of glands calling to another. It is marked by a feeling of insecurity. You are excited and eager but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about the relationship that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might…
