I had a person ask to join my current Mastermind Group, and they brought up this exact issue. I very politely explained to them that the biggest value that I (and the group) bring to them is the ability to connect them with people that can help execute their idea, and asked them to reconsider their thoughts regarding "stealing ideas" and instead take the risk of "sharing ideas."

I’ve been strongly influenced by posts like this one. In a related context, I’ve ranted about NDAs on my podcast and blog. (As a rule, unless a client is willing to pay for a minimum engagement of $10,000 I don’t sign NDAs.)

Here's why I think that type of mindset can be poisonous to a Mastermind Group:

The person has an unrealistic valuation of "their" idea. In short, If over the course of a coffee conversation, or even a few Mastermind groups, I'm able to discover all the unique value propositions of the idea that you've spent years working on, then you probably don't have an idea that a million other people have.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution is king.
No truly great idea can be executed without a team. "hiding the idea" simply limits the people that you can expose who to who can truly help you execute it.
