Joanie,
Thanks for your comments and connecting. How long have you been apart of the network? I agree with your point that Colorado Springs people need to stick together and network more. I have lived here my whole life and it seems that this concept alludes people in our region. I have tried to develop and mentor this concept in life and business for about 20 years. That is why when I found this site I got really excited. Thanks for taking the step to connect. I hope you have a great day!

Thanks for nice comments. Yes I remenber when we were fearless. Seems so long ago. Yes I fell off colt and broke my femur up by hip. So funny but never thought it could happen to me. Been thrown off, drug and fell on and always was able to get ou and shke it off. When I broke it I told my husband to just get my pain killers and muscle relaxers and I would be alright. rofl! Did not notice that my foot was at right angle to my leg. Anyway have started Weight watchers and determined to lose weight and get back in shape. Forgot how good I feel when I work out. It really changes your outlook on life. Best of everything to you.

Hi,

It's a 1876 Button Hand pumper. The first fire engine the fire dept had when it was founded in 1876.

Joanie, I've considered a number of things, portraits, either in graphite or photo included. Also i've considered "gift" items, Much of what I see in tack shops aren't really very artistically interesting. Right now, I'm so darn tired that actually trying to go forward with anything.

Joanie,
Very impressive credentials! Thanks for the nice comments you made. I grew up in farming with ponies and Quarter Horses but have been around the city for a long time. I hope your dream works out soon.
Thanks,
David

hi joanie, i read your message yesterday, thank you ao much for the encouragement. I've loved horses as long as can remember and spent many years at the race track working with them. Photography has been a long time interest as is drawing(horses of course). My job is a brain-drain and I haven't been around a horse in awhile :( I still lean towards the racehorse but as you well know there's many issues that need dealing with in that industry.

Got into Mini's to help guard my goats and help eat Kudzu. Good luck with your dream property. Sounds fun. I like orienteering and climbing but never used a horse for either.

Let me know if I can help with your future plans for adventure. BTW, I raise mini-donkeys as well as other miniatures on my farm.

FYI - That's exactly the size opening I use for my hay cube dispensers. I fill them with Ontario Dehy Timothy Balance hay cubes, which are smaller than alfalfa cubes. The 2" opening on the Amazing Graze is a bit too large for the ODTB, and although my cubes fit through a one-and a quarter-inch opening, that's too small to dispense them properly. And my "antique" Pasture Pals are starting to break. Looks like I'll have to order some - lol.

About the hay feeders: Snow fence won't work because the horses chew through it and can swallow parts of it. There are two schools of thought on how large to make grid openings -- Either two inches or three inches. There are good arguments for using either of those sizes. Any smaller than two inches and the hay won't come out. Any larger and it doesn't slow them down enough. Because we're moving soon, I have no large heavy grid feeders and am happy with the small-mesh hay nets for now. (I like the 1.5" holes better than the 2" holes). The corner feeder belongs to a different Joanne (funny how similar names are emerging there!).

Nice design! You're certainly welcome to post pictures or videos of it in use on my website, on the "Slow Feeders" page and on the "Hay Cube Dispensers" subpage. You are also welcome to link a photo back to your website -- I would appreciate the rollover text of the photo letting people know that clicking on it will take them there. Be sure to also add your site's URL to the Blogs and Websites page. Let me know if you need any help. You will need to join the site before you can do more than contribute to discussion threads, but it's free.

So, have they been tested with draft horses yet? My draft cross is pretty hard on horse toys... Exactly how large is its opening?

Thanks... this mare is incredible! We raised her and she is going to be turning 6. We were going to take her to the Young Jumper Championships, but it really is pretty strenuous on them. Have to go level 5... next year as a 6 yr old, I think she has to go level 6. She definitely has the scope and abilities, just want her to go slower.

HI Joanie,

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like we have a lot in common. I'm happy just to be around horses even if they aren't mine! Yes, it is cold here. I don't like it. I would much rather be in KY, but unfortunately, we own four houses here and if we want to sell them we would have to take a big hit. So we're stuck. I love your pics of the horses!
I see you teach college. I am also a certified teacher, k-12, Eng. major. I taught 7th and 8th grade for seven months and decided it just wasn't for me. I have tried to get a job teaching, however, as a means to "fill in the gaps" since real estate is so hit and miss. But I haven't had any luck. I am taking it as a sign from God that He has something better for me. I'm trusting that He will lead me where He needs me most. I have been able to pay the bills so far but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't really tough at times.
I'm sure you will realize your horse dreams. I can tell you have a great heart for them!

Joanie,
Thank you very much for your birthday wishes and your encouragement. It means a lot to me. I agree with you that prayer is amazing and I have seen my prayers answered in leaps and bounds all of a sudden. These answers have occurred after I have made some meaningful realizations in my Christian life and given more and more of myself to Christ, in areas where I had previously not given to Him. The answers in turn have caused me to want to serve Him in accordance with His will for me. Joanie, thank you once again.

Mike
