Profile Information

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
Dave Ramsey's FPU. I want to explore my strengths and figure out/find/create work that I love.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Employee, not quite full time, not using anywhere near my potential, in an environment that all too often is toxic. For example, in "stepping out" for customer service-what I consider a standard level of service for our customers-a coworker has commented more than once that I was being "daring". I said, "Well, then I guess I might be daring to dead in 60 seconds."
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
At this point, I believe I want to be self-employed, using gifts that I have to create work I love. Yes, I know that is very non-specific. I hope to clarify that dream here.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
Nothing specific enough at this point. Generally, to do this work with my husband, to create wealth, to give more,
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I love to help others. After reading your book "48 Days to the Work You Love" (didn't get through it, lent it to daughter), "Cure for the Common Life" by Max Lucado, and several others, I have come to realize that I am in possession of a tremendous amount of resources, and that I love to share that information with others so that they can improve the quality of their lives. I can write well (started a blog "Too Darn Happy" and fell off the wagon) and I embrace change. I am comfortable speaking in front of groups, as I have done it sporadically for years, for the United Way, for work, for our school's parent group, and recently as a facilitator for Financial Peace University.

When multitasking meets the treadmill, and loses

Posted on April 23, 2012 at 6:27am 2 Comments

When I interviewed for my last, "real" job, the first question I was asked was, "Can you multitask?" Immediately and confidently I answered, "Absolutely!"

Fast forward several years and many mistakes later. Although I am so much wiser now to the folly of multitasking, I have decades of habits that I am working on rerouting into much healthier paths.

This behavior recently came to forefront through a friend and was the genesis of a post: 5 Ideas to Break the…

5 Ways to Create Margin in Your Life

Posted on March 19, 2012 at 8:54am 4 Comments

As business people and entrepreneurs, spouses and parents we often take on more than we are truly able to manage well. Although we may protest that statement and respond with a definitive "No, no, I'm fine!" to yet another request to squeeze another to-do into our life, the reality is that we tend to overfill our days and calendars and often stretch ourselves too thin. Moms especially need to give this area some attention, as a recent survey found that the biggest secret moms keep is one of…

All aboard the truth train

Do you value honesty in all areas of your life?

A while back I was reminded how important it was to have a workplace where honesty is recognized and encouraged.

At the time I happened to be working in an environment where gossip was rampant. While some gossip may actually contain truths, I still put it in the same category as dishonesty, as it has the same corrosive effect on relationships and the business as a whole. Given my weekday toxic atmsophere, I found myself thrilling…

There's no leading without followers

I was watching Derek Sivers' TED talk again about leaders and followers, and something different really struck me this time. I had always gotten a real kick out of the shirtless dancing guy and the unusual brand of leadership he engendered, but this time I had a revelation about how we…
