Profile Information
- How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
- I attended the Write to the Bank seminar this past week. It was an amazing seminar. Thank you so much, Dan and Joanne, and Nathan and Ashley, for such an amazing time. I am so excited to become a part of this group and to learn from so many amazing people as well as share my knowledge with them.
- What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
- I consider myself a wife and mother first and foremost, but earn an income working for two different companies doing medical transcription. Technically I am considered self employed.
- And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
- I would love to eventually phase out the medical transcriptioning altogether and write inspirational fiction for a living from the privacy of my house. I also have a few nonfiction titles that I am in the process of starting and a few children books series that I would like to pursue eventually, but my main passage is inspirational fiction.
- How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
- I would love to be able to combine work and family. I already work from home so know how to integrate the two but the balance is not there. My line of work is feast or famine. When there is work, I work and get money. When the work is not available, I don't work and don't earn money. And it's a fast turnaround (12 hours for some accounts) so I have to be very flexible. However, the work ethic of meeting deadlines I have down, so that is a plus. My goals are many: I would love to make enough to pay off our debt and allow my husband to quit his job and start pursuing his goals and dreams. I would also love to build a house on our acreage for ourselves and then a "in-law's quarters" so that we can start giving back to them when they have so graciously given to us for so many years. In addition, I have a nonprofit idea that I would love to start to give back to the community. Lastly, I would love to start college funds for our children, love to do interim foster care for infants being discharged from the hospital before they are placed with their forever family, and the list continues to grow and change daily. I love giving back to people who are truly in need and would love to have the means to do that full time.
- What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
- I definitely am more emotional versus logical - I have the social work background, the social work wiring. I am a helper, giver by nature. I love writing stories because I love stepping into the lives of other people (preferably created) and see twists and turns, making the story come to life. I am not very good in the business world at all. If someone explains step-by-step how to do something, I can follow directions, but I am not wired technically at all. I did run my own business (a day care business) for 5 years (and ran it fairly well) but honestly, I probably could have made much more money. I don't see things in terms of how much money I can make; I see in terms of how I can help someone else. I definitely need help in the business sense of things.

- I wrote an inspirational fiction book and am in the process of getting it published. I am in the process of writing a nonfiction book as well. That book (about miscarriage from a Christian perspective - collaboration of different womens' experiences from a Christian viewpoint) might open up the possibility to speak locally and sell the book there, or possibly just on the internet. I also have quite a bit of experience in parenting. I have read many books, attended many seminars, and helped coach foster, adoptive, and birthparents while I was a foster care and then adoption worker at a Christian organization. I am willing to help other people that might be struggling in the parenting realm.

Hi Cheri,
Thanks for taking time to answer my questions about starting a inhome daycare. I mostly would like to learn about your experiences, the challenges and how you dealt with them (such as difficult parents? picky eaters, personal appointment scheduling, etc). Also I am interested in the income potential. I realize the income varies with age of children, # hours/week but just in general. I have 2 of my own children (one under 2) so I really think a maximum of 3 additional children in my care would allow me to offer the best care.
Lots of questions...I appreciate your help.
