Chasing Promises

My all time favorite Old Testament character is Joseph. His story fascinates me. At the young age of 17 God promised Joseph that he would be a great leader. So great that even his own family would bow before him.

Plenty stood in the way of this promise. Joseph was beaten, thrown into an empty well, and sold into slavery by his own brothers. After being…

The last five years have changed me.

Before 2007 I cannot say I spent much time worrying about the basics. Food, mortgage, car payments and utilities came [relatively] easy. I will spare the gory details. Let us just say that what took me three years to build took the following three years to lose.

In the fall of 2010 I blew the dust off my nursing license, and took…

Consequences are unpredictable - Facebook Parenting for Troubled Teen Video

Posted on February 17, 2012 at 9:05am 3 Comments

It has only been a week since Tommy Jordan released his youtube video: "Facebook Parenting: For the troubled teen."

In case you have been under a rock week here is the video.

I have no interest in analyzing this man's parenting skills. I think all parents can admit to a time when we…

Baby smelling for beginners

Babies really have a way of putting out the stink. It is not so bad for the first few weeks after birth, but as their digestive system works out the nourishment remaining from gestation, their normally bland smelling diapers take a turn for the worst.

The very best thing to do is focus on the head. Since the head is the most attractive part of all babies anyway this should be…

I have been fascinated with time travel for a long time. Since I am a sci-fi fan I get plenty of entertainment content surrounding the subject. For the most part every episode of my favorite shows use time travel to give me a happy ending. Our hero goes back and saves someone or rights some kind of wrong. He or she gets to return back to their correct time and everything is…

What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am an LPN here in the Kansas City area. I'm currently a full time student working to complete my RN.

For 7 years I ran my own sub-contracting company where we specialized in kitchen counter tops and kitchen cabinet installation. During that time we installed cabinets in over 1,100 homes including two Extreme Makeover: Home Edition houses.

Those times are over and now I am finding fulfillment in being an employee and contributing to the health both mental and physical of those inside my community.

At http://bluecollarliving.com we focus on the need to incorporate word work with our faith to achieve all that God has planned for us.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
I want to contribute hard work and faith to any organization I am associated with. It's my never ending goal to express the love and joy of Christ in all that I do.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
A closer relationship with God and a closer relationship with my family.
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
Written and audio communication through blogging and podcasting. My wife and I have been through many hard times. During all of it we used our faith and commitment to hard work to survive everything. I hope to share those skills and abilities with as many people as possible.
Do you have a website presence anywhere?

If you have a product or service to promote (now or in the near future) this is your shot to state it! Say all you'd like:
Faith, without hard work, is dead.

After I'd hit "add comment" I noticed that the photo was "courtesy" of Barefoot Executive. BOSS is Carrie's annual event in Dallas. Zig made a special appearance last year. He's one of my favorite motivational trainers of all time.

Thanks Dave, I listen to podcasts 14 to 18 hours a day when I am on the road. Mostly faith, sales, news and motivational stuff. I canceled my xm radio and used the 13 bucks a month to fund the podcast and website. Years ago I sold boxed cabinets for a lumber yard and I was only as good as my installer. I was a great salesman but i have problems with detail. I always added a 15% bail-out bump to the installer's bid so he could bail me out when something didn't fit, thus my interest in your show.
Thanks again,
Tom

James, did you check out the page I built for my former counter top employer? www.allaroundsurfaces.com. I know I said I worked for them but I wasn't sure if I mentioned that I also built their web page. Let me know if you need any encouragement about the counter top biz or feedback or help with the web page. I'm working on three proposals for other people in the 212 connection right now but would love to talk shop with you if you've got time. I too have a strange fondness for counter tops. Shoot me a private message if you wanna chat. Blessings - Andy ( oh yeah, loved the post about the 150 billion for small business loans. Well written.
