How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I've been watching the "social network" phenomenon for several years. I thought there was a place for an "idea network" where we could share ideas and grow our businesses together. Something more than telling people you saw a celebrity or ate at Ben & Jerry's last night.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am an entrepreneur from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. Haven't had a "real job" since I was a kid.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
I trust it doesn't come as a surprise that I am living my dream. I didn't get it all worked out at age 20 but at this point in my life I'm certainly living the life I dreamed about.

My primary work activities are writing, speaking and coaching.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I have three incredible children -- and 7 grandchildren. Joanne and I have been married for over 40 years and every day is a great day!
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I love writing. I am a voracious reader so I am constantly getting new ideas that I want to pass on to people. There is a wealth of wisdom in past writings and I want to be effective in distilling that and then making applications for today.

Cool! I know as an art major in college, it was so much fun working along other artists in the studio/cubicles area--lots of idea bouncing and creative energy hopping around.

Working from home can't be just something you pulled out of the air - or the latest thing floating around the internet. For it to work it has to be an extension of something you are already doing, something you know about and care about already. The…

Watches and Horse Manure

In this week’s edition of Fortune magazine there is an ad for a Patek Philippe watch at $59,500. The tag says: “Patek’s legendary high resale values make this 18-karat rose-gold chrono a worthy investment."

Last week I was in Orlando for a God’s Green America summit. Because of the nature of the conference and the highly leveraged use of technology, many of t… Continue

Want a sweet business?

Do you think all businesses are suffering right now? Well guess what makes the hard times a little easier to handle – candy. There are many historical markers that show candy sales soar when the economy is in the tank. As unemployment rises, so do sales of Tootsie Rolls, Gummy Bears and Hershey’s Kisses. Terese McDonald, owner or Candyality in Chicago says her business is up 80% compared to this time last year. She’s struggling to keep up with the demand for Bit-O-Honeys, Swedish Fish and Sour B… Continue

The Fatal Assumption

Most of you have read The E-Myth by Michael Gerber. In that book Gerber describes what he calls the “Fatal Assumption.” And that is this: that knowing how to do the technical work means you know how to build a business.
Gerber clarifies a challenge we’ve all seen played out:

• If someone knows how to cook well, the fatal assumptio… Continue

On your own but not alone

Ever find yourself trying to be an entrepreneur but also trying to escape from the kids – or being distracted by the unpredictable noise around your table at Starbucks? You might want to try “CoWorking.”

This is one of the hot new terms accounting for people wanting to work not from home and not from an office is CoWorking. People who struggle with watching Oprah or playing Xbox in the middle of the afternoon may find that a shared office space is just what you need.… Continue

Don't drop that egg!

Yesterday while at the Nashville Zoo with my granddaughter, we watched as the zookeeper offered to let small children hold an ostrich egg. These amazing eggs are approximately 24 times the size of a chicken egg and weigh about 3 pounds. But rather than embracing a once-in-a-lifetime experience, almost without exception the parental caution was – “Now, don’t drop that egg.”

Just what do you suppose was at the top of every little child’s mind as they carefully took that big egg into their arms? W… Continue
