I and many of us ended 2012 in a fury of mixed emotions. Can you relate?
As a result, I took some time off and did a lot of reflecting about its meaning and how we’re to move forward despite what the world brings us.
We speak of succeeding and yes I’m here to inspire you and help lead you to greatness but we can’t escape the fact that we’re in the middle of a broken and hurting world.
Are you going to deny that?
To put it simple and truthfully, people have been through and are going through hell and I’m not going to pretend otherwise!
We say Happy New Year, but more so I’m hearing all over the place things like, “Good riddens 2012 and don’t let the door hit you on your backside on the way out!”
If you’ve been successful then I can venture to say, that you are standing on top of the rubble and debris from the challenges and hell that you went through yourself. You’ve paid the price and will be the first to admit that we never stop paying the price. All rewards come with great sacrifice and you know that if we want to keep winning we have to keep sacrificing and keep driving forward.
Vince Lombardi said, “I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.”
Many of us are going to lie exhausted on the field of battle and just give up and die. Instead of standing on our rubble, we’re going to let the rubble bury us!
We need to be real! We need to get down to the truth; we need to admit what’s stirring and boiling in the heart. The pain, the struggle, the agony, and the joy as well as the terrible; everything needs to be brought to light and faced head on!
Yes if you want change, you have to be willing to do something different, but you have to be honest to yourself. You need to have a dream to fulfill, but at the same time you need to admit the defeats and let that be your resource of understanding and not be your funeral.
Sometimes things happen so certain things can come to pass; so you can learn something, so you can add better value the next time around, so you can be a better servant, so your successes of the future will be fulfilling and victorious.
You know the quote from Winston Churchill? “If you’re going through hell, keep going”.
It’s going to help define you. It’s your purification process; it’s helping you become who you really need to be. It’s pruning you into that magnificent peace of art.
Don’t die on the battlefield, don’t give in to defeat. As you lay their exhausted, victorious, stand up with great honor, climb to the top of that debris, slam that flag post into the ground and claim your victory!
We need you to win; we need you to overcome everything and give us all hope that we can do the same.

Comment by Ann Musico on January 14, 2013 at 5:17am Rob is always transparent, honest and tells it like it is - and this is no exception. It's a very thought-provoking post and the right tone to start the new year in a thoughtful way.
