Back in November I had met with a friend who does a lot of freelance writing. He said that he would pass my name along to some Editors at a local Salt Lake publication; encouraging them to look at me as a Contributor for restaurant reviews. He was busy so it took him a few weeks to send the e-mail. When he did, the Editors asked me to contact them.
Initially I sent an e-mail thinking that would suffice. Not suprisingly, I heard nothing back. After a couple of weeks, I opened "48 Days to the Work You Love" and got some ideas for an Introduction Letter. I wrote the letter, got some feedback, printed it out and went to the UPS Store to mail it 3 miles.
I had planned on sending a resume in a few days with links to some of my best work (as stated in the letter). Prior to sending the resume, I got an e-mail from him saying thank you for the letter and that he is starting another column where he would like me to contribute. He asked me to make a couple pitches with ideas.
Last nite I was up to 3:00am working on the pitches. It has really messed up my focus for today but I was so excited that I needed to get it turned it.
Follow what you love, doors open.

Comment by Peter A Ferguson on January 17, 2013 at 7:40am Cool Jeff. I've always thought you have more than enough talent to take Salt Lake by storm in print and on KSL or another station as a regular "foodie" and chef.
I met Jeff here on 48 Days, set up a lunch appointment, we now go to lunch every 5-6 weeks. I encourage all 48-dayers to do the same. I sent out six requests to other 48 Days people in my area, Jeff is the only one to respond so far. I'm glad I didn't stop at 5.
