Movement or Action: What Is The Difference?

“Never confuse movement with action.”
― Ernest Hemingway

This is the one that will kill any dream you have. Most people choose movement, and fly by the action that is the critical part of any dream. Hold on now says you! Aren't they the same thing?

Absolutely not.

The fact that you are moving has nothing to do with you getting to where you want to go. Allow me to clarify. Are you busy? That's a rhetorical question, right? Everyone is busy! Look around! I'm sure that you can randomly ask any one of the next one hundred people and get the same answer.Busy busy busy! And that is why their life looks the same way it did last year, and the year before that...

How does yours look?

Look, don't be like the lemmings that approach life with all of the zeal of a fat security guard on a Segway. You've got dreams and goals. So, the question now is, what are you doing about it? Mere movement, or business just doesn't get you there. And the fact that you have dreams and goals won't do anything special for you either. Lots of people do.

So, what will you do that can set you apart? Take very purposeful action, thats what! We're talking about intentionality here. Wait you say. I'm intentionally pursuing my goals! No your not. If you were, you would be able to see some good progress. So would I, and everyone else who knows you.

You need to be focusing on the goals that will actually get you to where you want to be. I am wiling to bet that if you make a list of things that you really need to do, you could chop about eighty percent of the list off as almost a total waste of your time. The remaining twenty percent is what you need to be getting after.

So, get after it!

Let me know how it's going for you.

This is great advise. Dan Miller cuts 15% off of his list of goals each year, so that he can add new goals. In this way he continues to move forward dropping the stuff that is unnecessary. If we do this with our daily lives as well we would grow and develop personally at a lot faster rate!
