Almost rhetorically asking, “How many of you have ever experienced a great deal of pressure that caused you to lose your composure and a different side of you came out?”
Like, Share, & Tweet this if the answer is “YES!”
Have you ever heard the saying, “If you squeeze an orange you get orange juice?”
Of course many of you had!
I know without a shadow of a doubt, that under pressure or even deadlines I will act a certain way; I deliver a certain way; I make things happen a certain way. Things change in me internally when the going gets tough!
And based on our personality styles, we’re all going to respond differently.
Overall there are negatives and positives to our reaction. Much of the reaction that steers negatively is a result of not understanding who you are at the core.
If you lack the understanding of yourself then losing control of yourself becomes inevitable when the ‘you know what’ hits the fan.
By taking the time to get to know yourself at the core you tend to have a better grasp of your pressured response, and of course if you know this you can better prepare and equip yourself for tough moments.
If you understand yourself at the core and you know your ‘orange juice’what better opportunity to start learning how to live authentically from this place of knowing.
Now, I’m not saying go out and drink and smoke things; what I’m saying is that if you’re the ‘smoking type’ when under pressure then you know that when the pressure is on you tend to fill your mind like a vacuum that helps you escape the world or problems you live in.
Now, instead of doing that, why don’t you intentionally provide yourself with a way to escape the world in a productive manner that serves you and other people?
Now, I understand that we have jobs to work in and we have to make money to keep food on the table, and that’s pressure enough for some people to want to escape, but until you are finally able to do those things you love ‘all the time’, then at least you can intentionally make it a current outlet for yourself; while you’re not being forced to do other things.
Don’t hide away the things of your heart. Don’t conceal that orange juice!
Let it all flow; we were given our own type of orange juice for a reason. A reason to share and live it out; it’s who we are on the inside.
What a tragedy that will be if we get to the end our life just to find out that we never shared a drop for anything good!
That’s called ‘dying with your music still in you!’ Don’t do that; please… We all need you to come alive today!
What is your pressure response and how can you intentionally direct it?
When I’m under pressure I tend to get more methodical and more decisive.
If I did not know this, I may start laying out plans for the wrongs things; the things that steer me away from my own heart; the things that give me a reason to escape and not face up to challenges at hand.
I’ll probable lay out a strategic game plan with the motivations of escaping and not out of what inspires me and then I’ll make a decision to move in that direction. And because my motivation was all about escaping, I’ll probably never escape…
Trajectory of Focus™ is the coin I always use, “Wherever your focus is, there you will find your destiny. This has happened to me a few times!
Many of you know about a business I started in 2004-2005. It was a very expensive call center that spun us into a serious debt-hole over the years!
Yup; one of those crazy decisions that I made not because the idea inspired me, but because I was trying to escape a job I hated at the time.
My focus was about escaping the job I hated and thus I could not escape. I was trapped…
Had the idea been about something that inspired me, I would have then saw the job as a tool in the process; a leverage to help move me forward in the direction of my dream. It would have not been a job in my mind, but a school that happened to pay me money to work there!
Craziness… That’s a shift in perspective for sure, but at the same time there are underlining principles that have to be established in order to live that perspective.
First, I need to understand my ‘orange juice’!
Who am I, and when given the opportunity to respond and make a difference, how can I respond in such a way that it becomes a positive and productive impact on me and the world I live in.
That’s who we are folks! We have our own type of orange juice to serve this world with.
Try to ignore our own personal understanding, or who we are and we’re going to find ourselves spewing orange juice in all the wrong places.
Being intentional is how we find success. Being un-intentional is a fast track to misery and regret.
What an amazing world this will become if we all started intentionally sharing our orange juice!
