Homemade Cake Pricing

Hello, everyone.I'm making a birthday cake for some very close friends. But it is part of my business, and they are aware of that. The cake is homemade from fresh ingredients. It's 2 9x13s with a cream filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. Right now, I have put about $24.00 into this in materials and ingredients. I've been charging ingredients-times-2 for what I've sold so far.Is $47 or $48 dollars too much for a cake that size? Thanks.See More

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?: My husband - Doug Collier

What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?: I work part-time out of the home. I also have been pursuing work from home income in a couple of areas. I teach piano lessons. I am also in the beginning stages of a decorated cake business.

And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?: My goal/dream is to work from home to be able to take care of my child and to be able to help with the household income.

This cake was a two layer German Chocolate. I separated or torted each layer to make four and spread the German Chocolate frosting between each layer. Then used buttercream to frost and decorate. The colors were purple and gold. I will try to have better lighting for photos next…
