How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
Heard about through Dan's Podcast

Hope to connect with other like minded professionals to share resources and ideas. There are enough forces working against us, we need to work together.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Self employed, owner of a direct to patient, B2C eCommerce company that helps people as they recover on one foot . GoodbyeCrutches.com Also coach and mentor on how to use content to drive online sales and buile an eCommerce brand.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
To build this and other companies so that I can serve ever more people: customers and team members. Ultimately being rewarded with long term wealth for me and my family.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I used to dream of retiring, but the older I get the more I am enjoying my business life (can't call it work). My dream is to use my talents to do creative things with friends until the Lord call me home. My proudest accomplishment and most cherished thing is my family, including my first Granddaughter due in June 2014.
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
Type A overachiever. Gallup says I'm a Maximizer, Activator, Achiever, Individualist and a Mentor. DISC says I'm a a high D, I. I continue to learn and build on a diverse background that only makes sense in the rear view mirror: Naval Officer (yes I ran nuclear reactors on the largest ship), corporate world, sales, management, entrepreneur.

FIRE FOR EFFECT: What the Navy taught me about being an Entrepreneur

Posted on July 22, 2014 at 9:30am 1 Comment

One of the classic images of the Navy is the Battleship firing all guns broadside.  You can see the flames and the shock wave.  You can imagine the impact of the 16 inch shells.  Nine projectiles, each weighing as much as your car, simultaneously hit a target over 10 miles.

This iconic image taught me more about marketing than I learned in my MBA.  Since you paid for my college education…

Why April 11th is not Independence Day

Posted on July 4, 2014 at 12:00pm 4 Comments

Have you ever considered that we mark our nation's Independence Day on the day we declared it, not the day someone else acknowledged it?

  • On July 4, 1776 we declared independence
  • On April 11, 1783 Great Britain acknowledged it.

When our founding fathers decided the only thing they were certain was that the following days were going to be tough....very tough.  Yet we remember being free when we decided, not when someone else…

If you're not a salesman, then artist don't exist

Posted on June 22, 2014 at 5:30am 3 Comments

Recently I met a friend who proudly and definitively declared "I am not a salesman"  While he had successfully sold in the past, certain areas of sales clashed with his very being.  Things like cold calling and high pressure sales made him so uncomfortable that he concluded he was not, and could never be a salesman.

What if we used his same criteria to define artists.  Was Picasso an artist?  Sure he could paint and sculpt, but what about the other areas of art.  Could he create art…

What is the best product to sell online?

Posted on April 30, 2014 at 2:06pm 2 Comments

One of the most common questions I get asked especially when people are just starting into the wonderful world of eCommerce is "What is the best thing to sell online?"    The answers is easy and obvious, but being an old salesman at heart I have to answer a questions with a questions.  "What's the best car, restaurant, movie and vacation spot?".  With a puzzled look most…

Hi Tom, thank you for your welcome to the community a while back and your helpful comments. Sorry for my very late reply. Yes, the Boston/Cambridge area is chock-full of technology companies. I am hoping to learn a lot from 48days.net community members regardless of their location, and am looking forward to that experience. Thanks again!

Hi Tom,

I know I sent you a message previously but I also wanted to do so on your wall.  I am highly looking forward to learning more in your group.  I have a website currently that does not function well for ecommerce but it is all I have at the moment.  It will get better and I believe your group can help with that site and the other one that I want to build soon.

Hey Tom: I am just now seeing your comment that you left quite some time ago.  Thanks for mentioning my podcast to a couple of others.  I will actually be presenting at a conference during the 48 days get together in June, but I will be there in September.  Look forward to meeting you then.

Tom,

Thank you for your kind words. I am working on a podcast that I hope to be able to use my knowledge to establish authority, then to give away basic information and make more advanced information available for a modest price. I also plan on suggesting products which I will have an affiliate relationships with. I would also like to explore possibly offering classes and/or coaching. I have taught classes in the past at the extension office, so I do have experience teaching and or speaking to a group. I welcome any advise or insights you  may have. Thank you for your time and advise. ~ Michael
