How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
My husband and I have been reading Dan's books and listening to his podcasts for several months now as we hope to take charge of our own income and start our own business(es). We have a lot of ideas (some good and some not so good?), but we need a little (big?) nudge to make our dreams reality.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am a homemaker, with a *very* small at home business selling baby products.

I started out working on a cloth diaper website, but I've realized that this was a little out of focus for me. I'm currently writing a blog about homeschooling and being a godly wife and mother. We'll see where things go from there.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
I would like to make a significant income on the internet by providing products and services that would be helpful to other families and of particular interest to stay-at-home-moms. I want to do this in a way that does not jeopardize family life. I also think I *might* be interested in coaching. If I could figure out a way to make money by blogging, that would be fantastic. I love to write.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I'm committed to staying home with my kids and homeschooling them. We'd like the freedom to have a larger family without having to worry about money. We want to live debt free. We want our work to enhance and strenghten our marriage, rather than detract from it. We want to Lord to bless us, and make us a blessing to others.
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I am an ideas person, an encourager, and a teacher. I am a thinker, a reader, and a dreamer. I am a communicator, and enjoy writing and speaking. I am relational, but I *need* alone time, too. I am creative, but not crafty. I am a "leader" with a DI personality style.

Do you really want my business?

Why is it that corporate giants are so often guilty of myopic thinking?

Over the last week I was hit in the head with the fact that some companies truly don't want my business.

Example #1:

My sister is a young, single woman, who recently moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to pursue her dream career in musical theater. She is about six hours away from home, and living on her own. Up until last week, her only real way of communicating with the homefront was her cellular phone. She had been a U.S. Cel… Continue

Let The Girl Shoot!

The year was 1882 and Phoebe Anne Moses, a poor farm girl from Ohio, was traveling with her husband, Frank Butler, as he performed on the Vaudeville stage. He and his partner, John Graham, had an act that they called America's Own Rifle Team and Champion All Around Shots. Although she had proven to be quite the expert hunter, earning her living by shooting game birds for the local grocery back in Ohio, she never stepped foot on the stage. Phoebe was content to watch and support her husban… Continue

Of Steam Shovels, Cellars, and Outside-the-Box Thinking

You know you are starting to think like an entreprenuer when you can't read a children's book to your kids without thinking about the business implications of the storyline.

One of my four-year-old son's favorite books is the classic Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton. Written in 1939, this book tells the tale of a successful steam shovel owner-operator who has made a good living most of his life by working on the major projects that built America's infrastructure-… Continue

Hi Tiana,

I'm glad you joined the e-book project. QuickBooks offers a free download of their Simple Start Free Edition 2009 if you need financial software for your home based business - cloth diapers are definitely becoming popular again. The QuickBooks Tips Group will give you more information.

God Bless,
Bonnie

The best place to learn about my start in the audio book business would be the FAQ page at jimhodgesaudiobooks.com It started with my voice (like your husband) and my love of history. I picked an author (out of copyright) I loved and that was popular in home schooling circles, a genre I loved (historical fiction), and just recorded it and started offering free copies to potential distributors. It worked, and now I do it full time.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I have been visiting your websites and blogs and have been gleening some good ideas.

My husband and I have decided to take one of our ideas and run with it. We started writing out our business plan (using Dan's template) yesterday. It's really exciting to finally stop dreaming and start to make the dreams reality.

Was it an easy decision for me to stay home with the kids? Yes, and no. It was an easy decision in the sense that we knew it was the right thing to do, and that God was calling me to do it. It has been tough, financially, but God has always provided--one way or another.

Now, I think we are at a crossroads. God has taught us so much about being thankful for what we have, frugality, being faithful in the little things, and making the most out of His blessings. Now it's time for us to "knock it out of the park" so that we can be generous in ways that we never thought possible.
