Hi Sina,
When I started it actually took me about a year to get the courage to begin. I was nudged by another coach to step out and just do it. I decided I had enough materials, enough knowledge, that I could help someone. Once I made the decision,…
what a great idea dennis!!! what better location to have this course than that of a university??? especially for those who are starting out, ready with a degree and no idea on how to find that dream job!!! good luck!!!
hi justin,
yes. i think i read one of your comments earlier, about starting out with friends?? i think it was in the coaching room?? and while i am at it, what is the difference between coaching and being a facilitator?? is it the same thing?? but…
Sina,
As Justin mentioned there could many different first steps, it all depends on your current "location."
Decide why it is important for you to become a facilitator and then it seems that the steps become clearer.

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?

What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am currently employed.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
To be able to do what Confucius said:
Find a job that you love and then never work a day in your life!!!
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I am currently training to jog/run a 5k in November. I am not a jogger, but I am prepared to leave that comfort zone and challenge myself, and I am slowly getting there, and I will jog that 5k nonstop!!! :)
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I enjoy people and interacting with them. I am not afraid of public speaking. I am think quickly to resolve problems or issues that arise.

I simply went to the continuing education department and asked who I should talk to about providing a community course. Then I created a two page proposal and emailed to that person and requested a meeting. It might seem intimidating to approach someone in "Academia" but really they are just people looking for good courses to serve their community. And, with all the budget cuts this year, they are also looking for courses that will draw students. It is a win, win. Hope that helps.
Just noticed you joined 48Days.net -- WELCOME! So glad you became a member. Sounds like you are a communicator and interested in speaking. If so, consider joining the Speak It Forward group (link below). There are some great discussions going on that will likely be very profitable for you.
Sina,
My father (Dan Miller) sent me your comment regarding being a facilitator--there are many opportunities for you! Email seminars@48days.com to learn about leading the 48 Days classes. Additionally, you can be an affiliate of ours just by signing up here: http://www.48days.com/affiliates.php. Glad to hear the book was such a hit! :-)

The best place here to learn about coaching is to devour the content found in the Growing Coaches group. Participate in the forums, as your questions and begin sharing the wisdom you have with others. Also, be sure to participate in the teleclasses, etc you'll see offered there.
Sina,
I am a startup coach. I address all kinds of businesses, I am working with one client who has a game he invented, another who wants to start a coaching business, and others who are acupuncturists or info-preneurs. The principles of planning and business are the same for all these types of business.
What kind of Job are you looking for? Something that makes you passionate, excited, that makes you want to get up in the morning?
Peace
Joseph
