Thanks everyone. It was fun, and I'm certain there will be more. Great ideas Christopher. I'll definitely consider your suggestions for the next video. The challenge with this video is that we shoot it several times, but since it is part of the ch...

This is great, Mark--thanks for sharing!
Mark, I smiled the whole time. The highlight for me is seeing Jay at the end looking shocked. I think this will work well. Only one suggestion. In the first few scenes I would talk about the benefits of the work shop. You did well in saying who t...

Developing a Killer Elevator Speech.

Last week, I was invited to speak to a Job Hunter's Support Group in Charlotte. This was my first foray outside of my church, so I was really excited. I decided to talk about developing a memorable elevator speech. I wasn't certain of the crowd I would face, so I decided to be a speaker they wouldn't soon forget. It apparently worked. I've been asked back at a date TBD. Anyway, here is my guide to developing a "Killer" elevator speech. I think this applies to all of us entrepreneurial types as w… Continue

Nailing The Interview

Last week while on a trip, I was contacted by a local TV reporter in Charlotte to help with some questions he wanted to address in the Sunday paper. Here are the questions and the answers I provided. You can also see the article published by the Charlotte Observer

Question 1: Tell me about yourself

This is probably the most important question in your interview, and you must have your answer… Continue

An Example of Someone Following Their Dreams

I came across this YouTube video today from some friends on Facebook. The story involves a lady from Scotland. She is 47, unemployed, unremarkable in appearance, and appearing on the British show "Britain's Got Talent". This description alone has all the makings of a train wreck. The lady's name is Susan Boyle. When Simon Cowell asks her why she is on the show, she states that she wants to fulfill her dream of being a professional singer. After the smirks and eye rolls from Simon and several aud… Continue

Avoid Debt Reduction Gimmicks and Just Pay Off Your Debts

It is important that folks who want to eliminate their debt to not fall for gimmicks. It's easy to fall prey to consolidation products that show you how you can pay off your debt, including your home, faster and for less. While they may look good, they often can end up costing you more, and deny you the victories you need to keep pressing on. Let me explain.

I met with a client who was looking at a consolidation loan from Primerica, a subsidiary of Citigroup. While the family does have a number… Continue

There are career and job opportunities available

In light of the continuing bad news about the economy, it is time to look at it from a new perspective. We know that bad news sells, but there really is opportunity out there if one looks.

The current unemployment rate here in North Carolina is 10%. That is awful if you compare it to the 5.5% rate not too long ago. But let's not forget that 5% is considered full employment as people are constantly in transition between jobs, returning to school, etc. The good news out of this is that 90% of peo… Continue

Thanks! Funny how I found out about this website. I was looking for space to hold my Bootcamp class and called a local church, they had space and we started talking about business and he told me about the site. I can't wait to get more involved. :)
