Profile Information

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
Don't remember how I first heard about Dan, but it has been some time now. He interviewed me for one of his podcasts and told my story in No More Mondays in a side bar. I hope to learn ways to increase my products exposure and increase sales. I'm 50 and have a paid for home and a small military retirement, but no savings. I need to fix that fast!
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Self employed. Full time.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
To not have to travel as much to homeschool conventions selling my recordings. I do love to do them, just not so many! If I can build up the download portion of my website, then maybe I won't have to travel so much. But I need more customers and am not sure how to get more people to sign up for my email list.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
A deeper relationship with Christ and my wife.
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
Self motivated. Organized. Forward thinking. Creative.
Do you have a website presence anywhere?
http://jimhodgesaudiobooks.com
If you have a product or service to promote (now or in the near future) this is your shot to state it! Say all you'd like:
I record, produce, and market audio books and compilations of Old Time Radio Programs. Each product teaches history in an entertaining fashion. I have products appropriate for all age groups, from age 5 up to adult. Many men enjoy the Henty historical novels and Old Time Radio Shows, and school aged children like them and the recordings designed for younger listeners. Most of my customers are home schoolers, but not all of them! I will soon announce the ability to download directly from the website listed above. Go to my website and sign up for my monthly specials!

Hi Jim,

Another homeschooling mom here!

My husband has always been told he should be using his voice for a living. He was really impressed when he heard about you in Dan's podcast. I would love to hear more about how you got into the books-on-tape business.

Blessings,

Tiana

Mr. Hodges,

Thanks for the quick reply. A personal historian is one who would interview a person or a group and build an essay, book or even a CD/DVD for themselves or family and friends. This could be for the person's entire life or a specific period, like World War 2 or something of that nature. It is a special gift for the family to have of older relatives lives and thoughts to share. I have participated in a few as a reservist for a military history and plan to move this into the "real" world.

As far as genealogy, no not really. That usually entails more dates and basic information through a lineage. An example would be that the first Rayborn I am aware of came to the states from Wales/Scotland in 1632 as an indentured servant to become a cobbler. That pretty much ended there for his information except for the who begat whom. All very interesting but the personal historian takes the information from the person or group and creates the story from their stories, a more current history.

On the FPU note, that is great for you and your wife. We have three bills and then the mortgage. According to my wife, we will be done with the first three in about three years. Then tackle the house. We are very excited.

It has been great to hear from you. Please keep in touch.

Mr. Hodges,

It is great to see you on here. Your story through Dan's podcasts and books are quite inspirational. I too enjoy history and plan on angling towards a personal historian business.

Again, thanks for your inspirational story. You will do well.

Jim, are the the history for homeschoolers guy that Dan mentions? If so, that's great. We home-schooled for many years. Lots of work but good labor. Welcome!

Thanks,
David
