Laid off...and what has me excited!

No trick blog title here.  I recently found out that after almost 7 years with my current employer, a large national healthcare company, I will be on the short end of a major downsizing/restructuring (it happens to Human Resources people too)!As friends and family are starting to hear the news, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by the initial assumption that I must be totally bummed and depressed. And then…See More

Bad news that affects you

Did you realize that if you consistently watch the news, you are negatively impacted?Surely you’ve noticed that the majority of time spent on the daily/nightly news both local and nationally is about accidents, corrupt people, murders, abuse, the general inability of others to get along and anything else that makes you shake your head.Media studies have shown that the ratio of negative stories to feel-good…See More

Your life. Your choice. How do you fill the jar?

Great little story worth thinking about or revisiting even if you’ve heard it before!A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open…See More

You are your own business. Don't end up fired!

Do you have any businesses and/or individuals that you just love to work with? It could be a certain post office worker at your local branch.  A specific cashier at the grocery store?  How about a certain airline, online retailer, or bank? For every one you love, there are probably many more you prefer not to deal with or have even fired along the way.  But why?  What makes some stand out over…See More
