The art of writing Cover Letters

Hey guys,I'm looking for some help writing a cover letter for prospecting potential employers. Below is a sample of a recent letter I've drafted for the purpose of a first contact with a company. I've tried to keep it short while still giving a potential employer a quick view of who I am and what I'm about. I welcome any comments and ideas you might have that would help me get this right. So here it is. Thanks in advance for looking. To Whom It May Concern: My name is Dave Covert. I am a self…See More

Profile Information

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I heard about this via an e-mail up date from 48 days. My hope is that I can be a part of something positive and uplifting. My passion in life is to encourage and help others.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am currently laid off from a construction job.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
I have held many jobs in many different fields and while I have enjoyed parts of all of them I have been happiest as a self employed business owner. I feel as if I have been given a gift to encourage and minister to others and I have a passion for writing. I hope to use these talents in a business of some sort with a flexible scedule so I am free to be creative with my time, energy, and skills.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I am on a mission to strengthen my relationship with God, my wife and my children. I believe that having a heart for God is the foundation needed to be successful in anything. I also believe that my family is more important than amy goal or dream I might have. Having said all that I can tell you that we would love to have a horse farm in the country that we can share with other horse enthusiast, youth groups and other families.
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I love to encourage and motivate other people.

Hello David,

I try to take time each week to welcome new members to 48Days.Net. So, let me say "welcome" to you! I know you will find this to be a great site filled with people who are experiencing true success in both life and work.

I'd like to point out that one of the best places to connect with other liked-minded people here is in the GROUPS section. There are groups for just about every interest you can think of, and if you can't find a group that interests you, you can start one. Groups are my favorite part of 48Days.Net!

Finally, it sounds like you are interested in writing. If so, consider joining the Write It Forward. There are some great discussions going on that will likely be very profitable for you.

Plus, you might want to check out Speak It Forward as well. It's another group I'm involved with that has a lot of activity taking place.

Again, enjoy 48Days.Net. It's a great place to be!

Live it forward,
Kent Julian

David-
Welcome to 48 Days! I think you will find this community full of wise and helpful people.
I hope you find this community full of inspiration, knowledge and information that will help you reach your goals (I admire that your relationship with God is a priority goal for you-mine as well). If I can help you in any way, please feel free to contact me at any time. I’d love to help.
I’d like to invite you to view and comment on my blog if you could. It’s about personal finance. It’s new and I would greatly appreciate any feedback or have some followers. Again, if I can help you out in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Again, welcome to 48 Days!
