- How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
- I heard about 48days.net through Dan's 48 Days podcast. It sounds like a unique forum to collaborate with other professionals and seek guidance from those who have already struck out on their own. I hope to use this site to present ideas to others and gather critical feedback on which direction to take my business.
- What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
- I am co-owner of my own company. We generate approximately $250,000 annually. There are three of us that do the actual work. We are funded by the State of Tennessee to provide behavior services to adults with developmental disabilities. I have extensive knowledge and experience in working with nearly all forms of mental illness.
- And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
- I want to work with families or individual people to set up behavior strategies for dealing with disorders, mental health issues or personal challenges. I believe that behavior change can accomplish more than a pill can and small steps toward a goal can lead to more rapid success.
- How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
- I want to be able to provide this type of behavior service without the constrictions of state or insurance regulations. I want to be able to be an example for my children that you don't have to plan for a life of working for a boss or that you can create your own career path. One that may not actually be taught in a classroom or on a college campus.
- What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
- My core competencies include, but are not limited to, integrity, compassion, the ability to see clearly defined directions, and the desire to help people change their lives. I believe I am wired differently than most. I tend to come up with some of the more "off the wall" ideas when I see a challenge. Not everyone can appreciate a different train of thought, but generally that is where a lot of my solutions come from.

When do you know it is time to quit a business idea, lick your wounds, and let your family cushion your fall? One of my business partners and I discussed two options for our ailing business. #1, accept the loss of about $20,000 and close the business or #2, go get a line of credit and hope that in 6-8 months the revenue will be enough to not only cover expenses but also have a tiny bit of profit.

Here I thought I was going to shatter the world with a unique concept to help explain a strange phenomenon. I woke up this morning with the thought of why we don’t achieve success. Why are we afraid of accomplishing goals and bettering ourselves? The term “negative success” popped into my mind. I was excited and thought that I had just created a new way of looking at human behavior.

It can be challenging to stay motivated throughout the day. With my work, I travel around a good portion of Tennessee nearly every day. I find that I am most motivated and purposeful in the mornings and have my greatest desires to work on my new business. Nearly every single day the same thing happens. Right around 1:00 pm, the well runs dry and those great ideas are not as grandiose anymore.
I know a lot of people have this challenge. And I am sure this has been discussed…
