Profile Information

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I heard about 48Days on The Dave Ramsey Show, Fox Business. I am interested in learning and connecting with like minded people who have chosen Fundays over Mondays!
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Self-employed as a national voice talent. I have supported a wife and two daughters with my full-time voiceover career since 2005.

RECENT VOICEOVER: The Bob Hope Classic - Deutsche Bank Championship - The Transitions Championship PGA Tour Events

I've provided voiceover for clients such as: Sony, Bose, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, SPEED-TV, NASCAR's Kyle Petty, NASCAR's Morgan Shepherd, NFL's Tennessee Titans, NFL's Atlanta Falcons, Cartoon Network, DIY Network, Toyota, University of Nebraska, UNC Charlotte, Campbell University, Samaritan's Purse, Billy Graham Assoc...recently heard nationwide on ABC-TV as the announcer for The Orlando Citrus Parade, and thousands more....all from my home studio.
And then...what is the goal/dream you are striving for regarding your work life?
I would like to generate an income in the 6 figure range...not for the sake of "making a bunch of money" per se'. I believe in order to raise a family, pay for health insurance, save for college, grow my business, save for retirement etc., a household income needs to be $100k or more per year.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I want to continue to be the best father and husband I can be. As well, I have offer my local church audio production services...1/2 hour radio broadcast (just completed our 164 program) and I provide voiceover services to them as well...all as a way to give back to my community.
What would you say are your core competencies? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
Compassion and trustworthiness in my work and personal life. I genuinely like to help others...meeting needs. This fits great with my line of work...for instance, I can create a really cool birthday greeting for someone, using sound effects, music etc...where can you get that!! Also, I have an ability to edit/shoot video and I recently helped a friend surprise his wife with a 40th birthday video that came out so nice I was surprised!! It was a 25 minute video that spanned her life...this is now a family treasure!

One thing I do is create short, funny audio greetings for birthdays and special events. If you click this link, and then click STORE you can listen to some: http://www.voices.com/people/brianhaymond

Holiday Magic With My Kids...Life Lessons

My family is rich...that's not an arrogant statement, it's true. We live in the US and that means we are very well off compared to many areas of the world. Oh, there is still a list of things we truly need, which will have to wait and there will always be things we would like to have. However, in the midst of that, the reality is we are very, very well off....so are you, and like you, my family is grateful.

This year, in particular, has been rewarding as I have had more opportunities to coach m… Continue

The Boomerang Effect

A bodyguard friend of mine in Los Angeles needed a couple radio PSA's done last year for a dog shelter he is associated with. Because he is a long-time friend and it's a great cause, I wanted to offer them free of charge. Afterwards, he said "You like NASCAR, right...isn't it NASCAR country where you are now?....let me contact my buddy with NASCAR and see if he can get you tickets.

Well, as you might have guessed, my fully produced PSA's for a dear friend ended up turning into an unexpected ble… Continue

Don't Give Up...

You are not so unique that times of struggles have passed by without touching your life. You no doubt have more than a few stories to tell. Stories from your earliest memories, to 20 years go, from 10 years and 5 years ago...maybe even from 5 days ago, or perhaps, you are in the midst of one now.

"Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success..." That is the definition of the word perseverance, and maybe, just maybe, you need to be encouraged along these line… Continue

Trust

Recently, my wife emailed up to the booth an article titled "Graphics Matter in Marketing", posted by Karyn Greenstreet earlier today. Ms. Greenstreet says "I did an interesting test over the past few months, with astonishing results." You see, Karyn sells an ebook called How to Start a For-Profit Mastermind Group. Now I must admit I don't know about Karyn or the book, but I do find her results from the test interesting and feel they do apply to the voiceover business.

Ms. Greenstreet goes on t… Continue

Brian, your story is really inspiring to me -- especially since I got out of radio 20 years ago in search of something "better" to support my family. But I truly enjoyed the production side of the business so much that I did a few voiceovers for training videos and my church. Even set up a business, which I ran while teaching communication part-time at a community college. I got as far as investing some money in a good microphone, Tascam portastudio and CD unit, but it seems that improved computer soundcards and audio editing software are attractive alternatives to having a bunch of expensive gear. There are things I loved about voicing and production that I miss. Could this old passion of mine become reborn, thanks to increasing numbers of channels provided by the Internet to market, produce and distribute my work? Thanks for sharing!

Hey Brian, that is cool to know. I'm very familiar with Jack Hayford from PK events in the 90's. I was born in CA, but lived in the Phoenix area for 20 years before moving the family out to Charlotte in summer 2004. I expect I may need your services when I begin advertising on local stations sometime this year.
