Along those same lines Maureen…I like to use the SmartLav by Rode. It’s a lapel mic that plugs into your smartphone and gives you excellent sound (@$70). Here’s a link: SmartLav

After I record to the digitial recorder, I download the files to my computer for editing, evaluating or transcribing...

David, I use a small digital voice recorder and an inexpensive Radio Shack lapel microphone. The mic can also plug into my iPhone to record. The mic costs about $40. The digital recorder can record without the mic, but I prefer the mic because it picks up sound much better. If I just stick the recorder in my pocket or on a table, it records EVERYTHING else, including the rustling of my clothing, or the coughing of a nearby audience member.

Thanks for the tip!

Dr. Powers - I use the Tascam DR-40 and it is amazing! The biggest pros for me are: 1) It's a stand alone device so you don't need your laptop, but can edit the files on your computer later 2) It has built-in microphones as well as a microphone jack so you can record your voice and the audiences reaction as well at the same time 3) It has four tracks so you can do a ton with making the audio quality excellent 4) It's pretty inexpensive for what it does. Here's an affiliate link for it: Tascam DR-40

I do a lot of Continuing Ed style lectures at universities. I'd like to start recording them. Any advice?

I'd like to think maybe there's a Bluetooth mike or something I can wear that records to my laptop?

Two stories from this week regarding the power of using ANCHORS (what we teach in Speak It Forward regarding your presentation).

1. On Sunday I was greeting people as they entered the church I go to (my wife and I are "greeters"). A person came up to me and said, "You're the E+R=O guy." I asked where he heard me speak...it was at a conference I spok at in April 2012. Amazing...2.5 years later he remember the anchor and what it meant.

2. The message below was posted today on Facebook. It's from 3 years ago. Again, what made that part of my message so memorable was the anchor.

Bottom line...build your presentation around anchors. They work and are unforgettable :)

Kent, 7,000+ people yesterday? WOW! That is really, really inspiring, amazing, and cool! Also congrats on your 7,000 audience talk scheduled for next April.

For the 9 folks signed up for Kent's Speak It Forward mastermind group - you are going to love it. GREAT investment into getting to where you want to go.

Was privileged to speak to an audience of 7,000 plus yesterday at JLDC (Joint Leadership Development Conference) in Alabama. I shared the stage with the author of Forrest Gump, an America's Got Talen Semi-Finalist, and others. What a great venue! Here's a picture of when I shared a story about my daughter Kelsey...
