Why Namaste, and what's this about Mama Only??

Okay, so I'm cheating a little...I used to read a blog called "Mama Says Om" and I thought it was a great title. I love yoga and the pieceful meditation and discipline of focusing your mind and body. Namaste is commonly used as a closing at the end of yoga class, and basically is the essence of honoring each other and all that makes you, well, you.  "The peace within me honors the peace within you."  I love that!

As for the Mama part, well, we all have one in some shape or form. Whether it's a blood Mama, legal Mama, or a mother figure, we all tend to look to someone for that. My niche, my focus, is on families. I love all aspects of what family is, and know that it can also be the ultimate issue that can sabotage a life. We see situations of abuse and neglect...we see pessimism and anger toward the world, and what is the first thing a counselor goes back to? Your childhood. Your family..

So I want to use this group as a place to really look at your family life. As we grow our careers--whether it's us doing our own thing, or supporting a spouse doing an entreprenerial endeavor, it can take a toll on family life. So here is where we can bring up issues that are concerning us, ideas, fun family suggestions, etc. I'm open to what this becomes...and I know that when all is said and done, no amount of financial success can compensate for what is lacking in your home. So, let's make sure that our vocational success directly relates to our personal family success!

No matter what your age is, you can benefit from being in this group-- you may be a mama, are married to one, have a mama, or just want to know how to treat others with the utmost respect and love. The greatest thing on this earth is love, so let's collaborate to create as many loving homes as we can--going back to my own Mama's idea of "Creating a Haven of Peace in a Broken World"

Good question, Ashley!

We just have one little guy and he's 6. I've been home with him since I was about 5 months pregnant.  :)  He just started Kindergarten at a local Montessori school this year and we're tickled.  He LOVES it and we love that he has somewhere to go during the day because he gets B-O-R-E-D at home!

We just finished our latest Coaching with Excellence event with 48 Days, and as always, I ended up talking with some of the participants about parenting...and once again I'm inspired to write more and get more interaction going in this group.

We have 39 members here...let's find out more about the group--what is your family make-up?  How many children/ages?  Who is home with the kids--which parent, or both?

Well, I just decided to say hello. Maybe there can be more comments soon. I think I will enjoy the discussions. I hope everybody is having a good week.

Thanks for the reply, Ashley. Don't let the fact that my picture is not here anymore bother you. I did that for safety purposes. I had a virus get to me and some other stuff spooked me on facebook, so I got off of all the sites except here. This site is so positive, I want to stay here. For starters, I just want to ask you to pray for my wife if you don't mind. I wish you two could talk and become friends. Your outlook on life would be good for her.

I appreciate what you and your Dad do for people. I will enjoy the dialogue here and maybe be able to get my wife on here.

Thanks
Scott

Yes, we're still here, but obviously there hasn't been activity for a while now! If you have a question, please post a discussion here--I'd love to get some dialog going! I've been posting blogs, but that's about it. I'll be posting another one soon!

How are you Ashley? My name is Scott. I got here via Dave Ramsey, and your Daddy's book. I am honestly blown away by the mentality of doing something you love and being that happy and actually supporting your family in the process. My wife really needs to communicate with you. Maybe I can get her on here, maybe not. If this is still an active group, please reply.

My husband and I co-own and manage our business and we have 3 daughters. I think when you run your own business it tends to permeate your whole life! This topic definitely resonates with me because one of the reasons we started the business we did was because we wanted to spend more and quality time with our children. I struggle with balance regarding my family - I think it comes from the neurotic behaviors of my own mother - but balance is important in family life, just as it is in yoga! Thanks Ashley for starting this group, I am glad to be a part of it.

What a lovely word. I first read that in Jim Palmer's book, Wide Open Spaces.
