Comment by Connie Foster on April 23, 2012 at 4:58am Scott - Thanks for this link. It is very timely ammunition for me, since in education we are shifting away from fiction to information text. Our students need a balance of both - and so do I.

Comment by Connie Foster on April 2, 2012 at 11:25am Laurie - Diane is absolutely right. At a certain point, I go blind and can no longer identify the issues in my writing. We are lucky to have Diane's experience in our group. If you work with her, please let us know how it goes.
Good luck!

Comment by Diane Krause on March 30, 2012 at 4:19pm Hi Laurie! Editing is my thing. :) I do freelance editing, and work as an editor for a new digital publishing company. I had the privilege to edit Kent Julian's latest book, and it was great getting to work with him.
My first thought would actually be a question: are you talking about revising, or the editing of a final manuscript? I went to a writer's conference a few weeks ago where the keynote speaker was James Scott Bell. He did a very good breakout session on revision and self-editing, and had some great tips. I suspect the material came from his book Revision & Self-Editing (Writer's Digest books).
If you're talking about a final edit, I would say you're wise to contract that out to someone else. Since you've spent so much time with your manuscript, it would be very hard to edit it yourself. Our brains tend to read what we think is on the page and can easily miss what's actually on the page.
If you'd like to chat more about editing, feel free to contact me directly -- diane@thewritingrange.com.
Best of luck to you, and congratulations on getting a couple of novels completed. How exciting!
Comment by Laurie Brantley on March 30, 2012 at 4:03pm Does anyone have any encouragement or feedback on editing? I've written a couple of novels and need to do the editing, but I find it overwhelming at times and then start to procrastinate. Sometimes I feel like I don't even know where to start. I'm so frustrated. I welcome any comments. Thanks.
Comment by Greg Sparks on March 12, 2012 at 12:59pm I have a manuscript I would like to have critiqued, if anyone is interested. Thinking about publishing it with self publishing, but wanted to see what people thought of it. It is about a customer service rep who takes her aggressions out on her customers. RedemptionD5.doc
Thanks,
Greg
Thank you for the warm welcome, Connie. And, thank you for starting this group.
