I'm curious how people are adopting Drupal 6 and 7. Are you still using an older version than 6? What is the difference maker in your choice between 6 and 7? Share your thoughts below.Continue

I just created my first D7 theme. The biggest change since D6 was having to copy html.tpl.php from /modules/system to my theme folder.

I created a discussion if you'd like to comment on the site.

I don't that much about media queries myself so I purchased a responsive theme for my new D7 site. The theme has a lot of module dependencies so it's taken me a week so far to get it setup. Here's my mobile-first site BenjaminLotter.com.

Not sure about Drupal 8, I am still trying to get a handle at the beginner level of Drupal 7.  The book that Rob mentioned "Using Drupal" is a huge help in understanding how this system works.  Thanks Rob!

Personally, I could not possibly care less about Drupal 8 or any of the plans associated with it at the time (although, to answer your question, Symfony sounds like a good idea).  I want the Drupal community to get Drupal 7 done right first before they move on to 8. </rant>

What do you guys think about Drupal 8 going to the Symfony framework?

I still consider myself a newbie-moderate Drupal user.  I've been spending time getting used to the hook system Drupal uses to allow developers the ability to make functional changes.

In Drupal 8... they announced the use of Symfony. How do you envision the use of an MVC framework will affect your current knowledge of Drupal?

Rob,

Thanks for the podcast list.  It is my Automobile University.  I will check these all out.

It was a bit funny, I was working in the yard listening and catching up on your podcasts when you mentioned the "Using Drupal" book coming out.  I had just bought it last week.

Great job on the podcasts and again, thanks for the information.  I will keep everyone here updated.

Hi Darren - thanks for listening to the podcast!  I can suggest a couple resources for getting started with Drupal:

MustardSeedMedia Podcast - I've learned a lot by listening to Bob. Sometimes it's not so "intro" but more solving problems you run in to. A lot of great stuff there.

Lullabot Podcast - If you can get past their silliness there is a lot of great info here too. Much more high level stuff, but they will give you a good view of the Drupal landscape

Drupalize.me - this is a premium site by the folks at Lullabot, but there are a lot of free videos there too.

Speaking of videos, make sure to take a look at what's on Youtube also. I've found some gems there as well.

As far as books go, get "Using Drupal" from O'Reilly. It's one of my go-to books. There are also several others too, but that should help you get started.

Benjamin,

Thanks for sharing your beginning experience with Drupal.  I just feel that WP has a cartoonish feel compared to a more professional appearance with Drupal.  As I mentioned, I was leaning towards Joomla, but it seemed pretty deep to continue.  It was a bit hard to follow sometimes as well.  I have also tried various themes (paid/unpaid) with WP and just not feeling it, so to speak.  Perhaps another option is I just need to break down and get a proper logo completed.  Maybe that would remove that cartoonish feeling.

Some things I want to eventually move into is doing a podcast and maybe even video or webinars as well.

Thanks for your question, that is a great place to start even in my own head...

Darren, I learned Drupal by installing it and playing around with it and then building our church website with it. I always learned by reading and posting in the issue queue of a specific module. So I would definitely sign up at Drupal.org. As far as migrating, I've never tried it but there is a Migration Module for D7 http://drupal.org/project/wordpress_migrate.

I took a look at your website and I'm curious, what features are you missing in WP that you want in Drupal?
