Know Your Niche - Own Your Market

What sets you apart? Other people say they offer what you do. So if you are in a room with 10 of them...why should anyone use you?

So...what sets you apart?

A high percentage of businesses ultimately fail...or struggle along in survival mode, because they have never differentiated themselves from the crowd. Look around at all of the flourishing businesses in your community and with each and every one, you can see where they own a particular niche.

Whatever you say you do...there are others who claim the same thing:
- What sets you apart?
- What do you specialize in?
- What is unique about your business?

Well done, Kristin. Your heart really comes through. Now you need traffic. Not sure how much volume you can handle. Have you also considered setting up a fan page on Facebook? FB is so personal and viral. What you're offering also seems very personal, intimate and special. Once you're set up, start by asking your friends and family who are on FB to become a fan.

Also, I was curious about the bee. Is that somehow tied in to your theme? Reason I'm asking is that I've been working on getting a site going for a bee character I sort of accidentally invented about 3 years ago. Here's a link to the blog I posted here many months ago. When you have a chance, I'd love any input you might have. http://www.48days.net/profiles/blogs/god-man-or-superhero

Thanks Kristin. All His best for you!

thanks Jason! I just went and added an 'about me' section to my site. www.inspiredbygrace.net I hopefully within the next few months can afford to get someone to design my site...then I can actually have an 'about me' button!

Hi Kristin. You said something in your initial post that seems to define who you are and what your objective is.

"...I am a creative person and love making things to give to people or for people. I make all kinds of things..."

Might I suggest that you really let that resonate with you and inspire you to communicate that on your website & blog? People will want to know more about you...store is key. You also need to determine who your audience is and what they want. Then you can give it to them. :) Hope that helps

Vicki, I just went to etsy and added some more items and actually made a banner for the top of my etsy shop...what do you think? www.etsy.com/shop/iminspiredbygrace

Hi Kristin! This article on the "Crafting an MBA" blog talks about using and Etsy store as a launching pad for your business. You could set up an Etsy store and test some products you've created to see what the market wants.

I'm new to the group, and to 48days! I am just starting my business and I have no clue where to begin! I have gotten my EIN, my state tax id, my web address, and that's about it. I don't have my website set up yet, it just forwards to my blog. One problem that I think I have is not knowing what I want to concentrate on. I am a creative person and love making things to give to people or for people. I make all kinds of things, I am wondering if I need to concentrate on just one or if it's okay since it's a creative niche to have all of them? Thanks! Kristin www.inspiredbygrace.net

Health information technology, "meaningful use," and personal health records education and "buy-in" are in my niche.
