Jonathan's Blogging Journey

I first heard of blogging in the Summer of 2008. I was really fascinated by the idea and concept. It was about the same time that I began a personal mission to discover my true purpose in life. I had spent the previous five years building a start-up executive search firm with a few close friends. Although I was enjoying the journey, I really wanted to find my "fit" in the world... How to Get an MBA in the Expert Business in Just 2 Weeks

The Amplify Summit - 10 Days, 27 Experts.

One of the top determining factors of success is whether or not you decide to keep learning after college. Studies have shown that the average college graduate will only read one book after college over their lifetime. I remind my kids often that what I do today for work (running an online blogging business) didn’t […]

5 Reasons You Can Go Further Faster with a Mentor

Why Mentors Can Make All the Difference.

“Keep your elbow in when you shoot the basketball.” I remember hearing those words thousands of times growing up. I was fortunate to have a Dad that was not only my mentor but my basketball coach. Behind every success in life, stands a mentor. Someone who lovingly told us what we were doing wrong and […]

How to Start a Membership Site in 8 Simple Steps

90 Days, 8 Steps to Income Freedom.

One of the best investments I’ve made in my online business was learning how to start a membership site. I’m amazed at how many people are against the idea of having one. They are often afraid it will run their life, they won’t have time for anything else, and they can’t live up to everyone’s expectations. […]

How to evaluate, plan, and grow your online buisness.

Do you ever take time to evaluate what’s working or not working in your online business? So many of us are hustling and bootstrapping. I get it. I know you are busy. But even if you are making part-time income in your business, you should stop and evaluate how you are doing. I want to […]

3 Questions You Must Answer to Get Paid to Speak

Speak your passion, change lives.

I still remember my first big public speaking opportunity. I was 19 years old and it was a gym full of high schoolers and parents. Sometimes it’s good to be young and naive. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. That was a good thing. While many people dread the idea of public speaking, still several […]

Hey everyone! I sent out a similar message to the group didn't realize I could comment here. Sorry... So a quick recap I started a blog in Oct. and my traffic the past two day has been over 4000 pageviews. I intended to monetize this site but had no idea it would grow so quickly. Many of the creative blogs I follow have sponsors and adds on their paged but I have no idea how to get them. Feel free to stop by and take a look www.tangledhappy.blogspot.com. Any and all suggestions would be greatly apprecitated! Looking forward to hearing from some of you!!

Kathy, you have some great questions. Many of them were some of the same ones that I have worked through myself. The research part does take some time, but at the same time it can help you get clear on what you want to focus on with your site. One technique is to take the domain of a popular blog in your niche and send it through the Google Keyword Tool. It will display for you all the keywords listed on the site as well as the monthly searches.

Lastly, remember that even if a keyword only gets 500-1000 searches a month it still might be a winner. Also, when you have correctly targeted 50 or more of those they add up together rather nicely for lots of traffic. The key is to build back links and get in the top spot for your keyword phrase. They get WAY more clicks than anything else. This picture is proof for you.

Thanks Jonathan,

I really appreciate your generosity in fielding all my questions!

I have a blog. TheEverydayBlissBlog.com that I posted in nearly everyday for a year but at the time I never gave a thought to ranking for specific key words. It was my hobby only. I am currently redesigning the blog and plan to include the old relevant content in the new site but I'd like to be more strategic. Can you tell me if there might be a good way to determine what some good key words might be for the new site? My site is a bit self improvement orientated and I think with some tweaking some of my old content could be redone to include some other keywords... the thing is I want to know how to select keywords that people are actually interested in. I can easily find "green" key words but they aren't searched on enough to generate any real traffic over on my site. Any ideas?

Looking forward,
