Bob's Journey to Full-Time Blogging

I have been blogging since early 2007 and have been earning a full-time living from my blogs since early 2009. And yes, being a full-time blogger is as good as you would imagine. Back in early 2007 I was talking to a friend of mine about the idea of building a website that I would put up a new article on a given topic each day. After brainstorming a bit, I found a couple ideas of topics that I was passionate about: Proverbs and Personal Finance. My first idea was to [Read More]

Jonathan's Blogging Journey

I first heard of blogging in the Summer of 2008. I was really fascinated by the idea and concept. It was about the same time that I began a personal mission to discover my true purpose in life. I had spent the previous five years building a start-up executive search firm with a few close friends. Although I was enjoying the journey, I really wanted to find my "fit" in the world... Wordpress.prg was a typo HAHA.....
Wordpress.com is a free account but you do not have complete control over everything.....it is like having a blog like: mypassion.wordpress.com
Wordpress.org is where you can install the blogging platform for your own blog. It is the process that I recommend. Keep asking questions......it will take a little while for it to all sink in.

Thank you, Jonathan. This is great info you're giving us! And very timely for me. What is the difference between Wordpress.com, Wordpress.org, and Wordpress.prg?
So glad you're sharing with us!!!
Blessings,
Donna

Hi Scott, Yes I will cover ideas on how you can make money on your blog. Some just choose to get their message out (like a charity) others are interested in making an income talking about things they love.

Excellent content. I'm just getting started blogging. This feels like a gold mine to me. I can't wait for the next video! Are you going to explain how you make money through these blogs? Advertising, product sales, etc.? Thanks for the info!

I would highly recommend that you get your own domain and host your own blog. I know it sounds scary, but it is much easier these days then it was. I would do this for two reasons:

1. using wordpress.com they have complete control over your site. For example, if you get busy and do not post for awhile, they can just close the site and you lose the content (it has happened to me).

2. Having your own domain will help you to be "friendly" in the search engines. Your first step is to get your blog in google search index. I did a little check and it is not even in their search index yet. You can find out by putting this in google search: site:aliceandaspergers.wordpress.com/

As you can tell nothing shows up. I would encourage you to buy a domain ($7.99) from Netfirms and then buy a small hosting account from HostGator ($4.95 month) and with a push of a button it (Fantastico) you can install Wordpress (by the way there is a difference between wordpress.prg and wordpress.com).
