Sounds like Matt is on the right track. I just expanded on his instructions with a graphic that might explain it more clearly (see below.)
Hi Tom, I don't use Thesis, but one place you could look is wp-admin >> Users >> ( find the user with email of ponygallery) >> Edit. Then enter a new nickname, Tom Ballard, for that user and set the "Display name publicly as" option to that name.
Again, I don't know if Thesis does display names differently so your mileage may vary.
Here's one for Thesis users, although it could be elsewhere in wordpress.
When I make a post to my website, jesusfreaktrucker.com, it shows the author as ponygallery witch is an email address name I use for unrelated stuff. How do I get that changed to read Tom Ballard? I am guessing it is pulling it from somewhere that is changeable, but I sure can't find it.

A non-profit group I belong to, Love Heals, hopes to stop human/sex trafficking here in the US, starting locally in Nashville, TN. We are looking for someone who would donate their time to build a website for this cause. It's becoming so big, some drug dealers are getting out of the drug business and kidnapping young girls and forcing them into prostituion. My site will be very heavy on automated daily e-mails for subscribers. My goal is to have 100,000 subscribers within 3 years. The developer must have experience setting up this type of site.

She is still trying to figure out what she wants the menus to look like. She has a vision for some big ideas, and she wants the structure in place before adding her historical blog posts. New pictures and such to come soon, and hoping to capture some more audio via Skype in next week.
I'll have to agree with Scott, Will and Rob. It can be confusing with WORDpress and MS WORD but have the term, "WORD" in it, but other than that, they aren't very compatible. As discussed below, there are several options and workarounds, but as you've heard from several other web savvy people, don't use Word for text editing that will go online. It may seem odd since MS Word is standard for everyone in print and office work, but online, it's not recommended.
I'll echo what Scott and Will said. I always recommend my clients stay as far away from MS Word as POSSIBLE. It's a horrendous tool for any kind of web work. Evernote is a MUCH better tool and I use it all the time for my posts.
MS Word is a terrible tool for creating and editing HTML. You'd be better off in the long term finding a text editor designed for working with HTML, and it never hurts to lean a bit of HTML so you can tweak things manually.
