http://www.kickstarter.com/
http://www.rockethub.com/
Heard great stuff about both of them...
Permalink Reply by Chris Puckett on April 25, 2012 at 11:36am I've been on kickstarter but, I haven't attempted to raise my own funding for my company yet because 1) I haven't developed my "pitch" yet and 2) it's an "ALL or NOTHING" set-up. Meaning if you don't hit your goal, you don't get any money. I have given to others on kickstarter.com. They had great vidoes and went in to detail about they were going to use the funding to expand/launch their businesses. My small contributions, with the help of many other people, have launched 2 small microbreweries and a documentary film.
Haven't heard of rockethub until toady but, after looking at it, it doesn't seem to be set up that way as kickstarter. If you don't hit your goal here you just pay a higher commission or processing fee. Going to have to check this out further for own use.
Thanks Terry for posting the question and thanks to Rob for posting this reply, I may have found a new source of funding for my own business.
PS - I agree with Archie's advice of "avoiding debt at all cost", even if it means starting or growing a little slower than you would prefer.
Permalink Reply by Archie Winningham on February 15, 2012 at 7:54am Terry, I'm not up on all the grants and funding that is out there for small businesses. I'll leave that to the experts like Rob. And hey, you won't go wrong with Rob Clinton's mentorship and business tips.
One piece of advice that I CAN give; avoid business debt at all cost. Debt is nothing but making the banks/credit card companies richer, while applying bondage to your biz. It will take some time, but hang in there and be very consistent in everything you do, and success is YOUR'S! I believe in you bro. -Archie
