Praise the Lord that I still breathe, and I have suffered no major injuries except bruises, and sprains. I was riding my bike today, and was on the sidewalk (no bike lane) and a car coming out of a driveway slammed me from the side and I went flying on the concrete and almost underneath the car. My head did not hit the ground, however my bike was totaled. By SC law its okay for cars to slam into bikes when they are on the sidewalk (yes literally). The driver admitted he was at fault because he did not look before he turned out, but by SC law it was perfectly okay to slam into me, or any other bike rider when they are on a sidewalk.

I would say that angels were looking out for me tonight as it was far from luck. But with these kinds of laws, its no wonder I see so few bicycle riders on SC roads. In the part of SF Bay Area in California where I am from I see bicycle riders all the time. I have suffered some bruises and was in total pain prior to taking a pain medication. However I have put antibiotics on my bruises and probably will be fine.

I need to be at court in March to get a $238 fee waived or I need to pay the fee + the cost of a new bike. But I wonder if I should even bother to get one since SC laws discourage owning a bike. You cant ride on the sidewalk, and if there is no bike lane, then you need to ride with the traffic.

Amazingly my Blackberry survived the accident and suffered no damage. I have a otter-box case for it which the car hit when it hit me and I went on the ground under the car. I have had a great experience with the Blackberry since 2009, and I am sorry that others have not had such an experience, but mine continues to tick and it has been rained on, dropped many times, yet still ticks. The ambulance looked at me and said I was fine. I was in shock after the accident, but only suffered some bruises and sprains, praise the Lord!!

I have a book on angels by David Jeremiah which I need to read.

So with Dave & Dan I take the good components in their works. I am probably more aligned with James MacDonald, Erwin Lutzer, John MacArthur, David Jeremiah, or Charles Stanley on a approach to debt and work. But I can learn lots from Dave & Dan as well.

I am glad you're ok John.  What a difficult experience.

What is the $238 fee for?

In 12 step groups they say, "take what you can and leave the rest".  There are very few churches or people I agree with 100%, however there are very few people or churches that I cannot learn something from.

Take care.

Thank you my friend. I am at fault by SC law as I was riding on the sidewalk. However Pleasantberg is a 4 lane per side road that ppl drive almost as fast as on the freeway, and there are no bike lanes. Regardless of what the law states I was using common sense. I have yet to find a bike rider riding on the road with the drivers on that road. The law will wait till someone gets killed and the family sues the city before they change. In this event I wont be riding my bike ever again on that road. I will only walk the road with my bike (as I am a pedestrian then). The driver himself admitted fault, but the law is clear.

Yes I agree with you. There is much to be learned from those you disagree with.

John, glad to hear you're doing well after such a traumatic experience.  I see you reference a lot of Reformers pretty often.  I'd love to chat with you about that sometime.  I really like John Mac, Piper, and Paul Washer.  (Todd Friel gets on my nerves after awhile.)  Hope your recovery is speedy and continues.

Not always. I also refer to David Jeremiah, Erwin Lutzer, and Charles Stanley. Lutzer may claim to be a Calvinist and he may be in some areas. However his eschatology is not Calvinist, and he also favors the sinners prayer, which is unlike a Calvinist. Lutzer is a cross between both.
