Hello all!

I am a web developer and have noticed that alot of people here are wanting to build their own websites, or are otherwise doing things with the web. I thought it might be usefull to have an introductory class to website design and construction. If I can get at least 10, and a maximum of 25 people who are interested, I will teach a live web class covering:

* Domain Names and DNS
* Web Hosting Sites
* HTML
* Usefull sites and tools

I think we could cover that much in an hour to an hour and a half live class. If the class is popular, I would be glad to make a series, covering things such as PHP, setting up web servers, eCommerce, shopping carts, eBooks, etc. If you are interested please email me at SmallBusinessSense at gmail dot com, and if you like, tell me what subjects you would be most interested in.

Hello All,

I am sorry, I have been trying to get the technology to have a live
class working, and it is not co-operating. I am not sure what is the
problem, as I tested it and had it working two weeks ago when I posted the
class idea.

I will however still try give my presentation a try, and then make it
available for download. To get it done, edited, and available for
download will probably take until sometime tomorrow, but I am not giving
up. I will have another look at what is needed for a live class tonight
as well. If you would like to email me questions you have about website
building, I will try and include them. One that I know is on several
peoples minds is the merits of using sites like www.moonfruit.com/

Thanks for your patience, I am sorry the live class isn't working. I
think the idea of a class still has merit, and at least if we
have to settle for a non-interactive class, I can still answer your
questions. Also with it being non-interactive I could possible do more
per week, and cover more areas of interest.

Thank you all,
Jordan

Has this taken place?

Yes, see the link just above. It didn't seem to be very popular, so I am not sure if I will try and take it further at this point. Though I am available to help anyone that wants to with web development.
Thanks,
Jordan

Jordan, thanks for offering to help with this. And after reading most of the replies you have received on this, I hope you will start from scratch on how to build you own website. I'd be that student, the one that desires to have his own website, but doesn't know where to start!

Thanks,

Archie

Hi Jordan, I know that it has been a while since you first offered help with this stuff. If possible I would like to talk to you a little bit more about web development. If you have a little time, please take a look at my previous discussion about creating a computer program for a new business idea on my profile page. I think that it would work as a web based application.

Well it was a good first try but it needs some improvement...

It doesn't look like I have enough bandwidth to do a live class, where you can
view what I am doing, and we can interact, so I tried to do a video capture of
my screen, and that didn't work as well as I had hoped. To get the video quality
high enough creates a prohibitively large file size. So...

I have thought about it and my plan is to turn it into a series of audio
episodes, (I will make it podcastable) and walk through making a site from start
to finish with (X)HTML and CSS. If they prove popular, I will keep going with
eCommerce, SEO etc.

Time is always the only scarce resource... but I plan to make a simple site for
it, probably with a forum and mailinglist, and start producing the episodes this
week. (I will post the site URL here)

I love coding and teaching, so in the meantime, or anytime, if you have a
question about something drop me a line.
