I am a Massage Therapist in Orem, Utah. I focus on Medical/Therapeutic Massage. I've done some Sports Massage with some of the Extramural BYU sports teams.

My chosen specialty is Injury Prevention and Rehab, for everyone, not just athletes.

I am currently putting together a marketing plan "Eliminate Back Pain in 10 Sessions, Guaranteed!" I could probably reduce it to as little as 6 sessions though, if you have any thoughts on that, I'd appreciate it! The sessions would be 2/wk, so 6 sessions would be 3 weeks, 10 sessions - 5 wks.

My long term business goals/thoughts are to provide Massage Therapists who are specially trained for chiropractic offices and Physical Therapy Offices. And to draw clientele from the Medical Professions. I would like to have my own location, and expand to several locations throughout Utah Valley (if you look at a map, I want to cover from Santaquin in the south to Lehi in the north, and west to Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain)

I'm working at a Chiropractic office, but don't want to limit my potential growth by using that business name.

My basic idea is I want to let people know that I'm not just a fluff and buff relaxation massage place like almost everyone else out there.

I've thought of Utah Medical Massage, Utah Valley Massage (I'm in Utah Valley...) Utah Valley Medical Massage, Medical Massage of Utah...

Needless to say, I'm kind of stuck on the "Medical" part of the name. I'm not opposed to dropping that from the name, I just want a good name that says "Medical Professional" not "Fluffy Massage"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This forum has been a great help already, and I hope my comments are helpful and not junk.

So who will you be marketing to primarily? To docs or to the public? We are doing a lot of 'name' discussions in the 'Branding & Positioning Group,' you might want to take this discussion there.

Dane,

"Rub it out Massage; specializing in injury prevention and rehabilitation". This is the first thing that came to mind. Hope it helps somehow. Good luck and God bless.

PS, my brother-in-law is going through massage school now here in Florida.

How about something like "Healing Massage Center of Utah"?

Well, I've been in therapy business since long and I believed myself good in it but I never thought of anything like a new name for massage business.. lol.

Well, I would like to go a bit unusual in terms of name.

Massage Drive
Massage Place
Massage Palace

You don't have to tell people that its medical.. lol.. I mean they are sure if they are going for massage, it must be either for relaxation or for medical treatments. The procedure or was of massage therapy are more or less similar in most of the parlors.

That was my input. Hope it helps.

I see nothing wrong with Utah Valley Massage...
This name doesn't sound "Fluffy"...it's straight forward..You could say "Utah Valley Massage Therapy"...

In my area (Cape Fear Valley), you hear alot of business names Cape Fear Orthopaedic, Cape Fear Plastic Surgery, Cape Fear Pediatrics....all these are well respected....would this be the case in Utah Valley?

Hi Dane,

You've definitely put some thought into this and I think you are on the right track. Great job.

Regarding the marketing plan:
I would be very cautious before using the word "guarantee" - especially in a health field eliminating pain. I just want to ensure you have considered that because I can imagine pain is a hard thing to prove in a court of law if you were sued or if the client has a pain that just doesn't go away. Granted, I'm ignorant of the chiropractic industry and I work for a company heavily regulated by the SEC and FINRA so my risk management alarms may be going off too soon.

Regarding your business name:
I fully understand what you mean about desiring a name that presents itself as professional, not as a gimmick. Out of the previous suggestions, I prefer Gerry's suggestion of "Healing Massage Center of Utah". The reason I like it is because it clearly defines what you do and generally where you do it. If you prefer the medical in the name then, "Medical Massage Center of Utah". Honestly, your description above seems like a great line for your 10 second elevator pitch..."Injury prevention and rehabilitation massage for everyone, not just athletes."

Once again great job for the foundational thought you have put into your plan. Keep up the good work.

I wonder if this is similar to some articles I have read here in the UK about Nursing professionals sustaining back injuries in their work (petite Nurse turning a heavy patient for example) Perhaps that could be your focus? If you got a rep with the nursing community that could be a good usp I would imagine. So a name to reflect that. Whatever name you choose you could have a different tagline for different target markets. Utah xxx 'Back Repair for the Nursing Professional' or 'You Care for them we care for you' Maybe leaflet surgeries with special offers? I know that your kind of service really works, my Wife had a shoulder problem that took about 4 visits to get great improvement, she now visits once a month and is completely pain free. Good luck with your venture.

Roy.
