Thank you for starting this excellent discussion! I appreciate reading the wealth of information in the replies. At this point, I am an Amazon affiliate, but I look forward to integrating affiliate programs more into my business plan. I also look forward listening to Joel's pod cast with Pat Flynn, to joining David Dutton's group and to implementing the steps suggested by Jeff Long.

Great discussion going on here guys! Love how this community comes together and helps one another. What has worked best for me is:

• Recommending products you have actually tried.
• Posting an honest review (good, bad, and the ugly)
• Text links work better than image links (this is true for Amazon too)
• Target keywords in your blog post review that people would use when searching in the search engines (Product name review, product name reviews, product name demo, etc.)
• Consider creating a YouTube Video as well (Many people search YouTube for reviews)
• Rinse and repeat (over and over)

Hey Kim, just found that Createspace as a affiliate program that pays $8 for those that create a new account. Kind of fun. Just added it to our website.

the only affiliate program I have is through Amazon (I have a bookstore).  Have not made any money though.  The pros are that it is easy to set up. 

I did start using Google Adsense, but I stopped that because it looked too cluttered

So that is my 2 cents.
